Offered without comment:

Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women.

- Former Post movie critic Michael Medved, re: rumours that there's a fair bit of subtext in the new Sherlock Holmes movie.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

I'm thinking Mr Medved needs to familiarise himself with this thing we like to call "the internet". Specifically, the Slash Division. (We Are Everywhere, Resistance Is Fultile, etc.)

But seriously, even non-slashers aren't really going to be turned off by a movie containing Jude Law and Robert Downey, Jr. just cause they make out a little, I don't think. Which ... isn't even what's actually going on in the movie, but whatever.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Now, now, be fair. There are at least some homophobes on the internet.

... A lot of whom seem to be violently closeted, so will probably go and see it anyway, now that I think about it. So you have a point. :D

(Seriously, what is it about a certain breed of straight guy that they're perfectly fine getting off to fauxbians and yet it does not occur to them that women might like boytouching? Logic: get you some!)

From: [identity profile] ruby-fruit.livejournal.com

:D

(I don't even know. Straight boys are like a different species.)

Also have I mentioned how much I love that this guy almost won American Idol? America got trolled.

(I don't even know. Straight boys are like a different species.)

and yet I've known a number of them for whom "Hey, if I like girltouching, girls must like boytouching, yes?" was a perfectly logical train of thought. It's like they escaped the "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, Evolutionary Psychologists are from Uranus" brainwashing!

Also have I mentioned how much I love that this guy almost won American Idol? America got trolled.

... My bunk: I'll be in it. O_O

From: [identity profile] ruby-fruit.livejournal.com

It is a perfectly logical train of thought! IDK what is wrong with those other boys.

But wait, there's more!

Seriously. People throw bras and panties and handcuffs and whip at him on stage. At an IDOL CONCERT. *rolls around it it all, laughing*

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

I'm going to chose to believe Simon Cowell orchestrated the whole thing (or at least facilitated it) in order to stick two up to the Americans. Because then at least he'll have done something useful in his life and I can stop hating him for knowing who he is. :D

From: [identity profile] ruby-fruit.livejournal.com

Given the way Simon gets heart eyes around Adam this is highly likely.

I'm just going to post more pictures now.

Re: first picture -- JESUS POLEDANCING CHRIST, LAMBERT HOW MANY SOCKS DO YOU HAVE DOWN THERE? O_O

From: [identity profile] ruby-fruit.livejournal.com

No socks, actually. There's a frontal shot is him in those pants and...you can actually tell he's Jewish. Pity his tiny boyfriends.

Does he have a history of moronity, then? This is the first I've heard of him.

From: [identity profile] annlarimer.livejournal.com

Very much so. He's never been a terribly good film critic. Then he jumped on the OMG Hollywood is destroying America's purity!!! bandwagon, producing books such as "Hollywood vs. America" and "Saving Childhood: Protecting Our Children from the National Assault on Innocence."

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Yeah, a cursory google search turned up the phrase "Michael Medved has taken an extraordinary journey from liberal activist to outspoken conservative," and that was all I needed to know. Sigh.

I did wonder why, given that he's described as a former film critic, he was even getting a platform to spout his ill-informed opinion anymore, but then your American medcia baffles me on a daily basis, I fear.

It baffles us, too. It's pretty much 300 channels of people shouting at each other.

"rumours"? Dude, have you seen the trailer? That's not rumour, that's the truth.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

I have not seen the trailer, actually. Although now I will availa myself of YoutTube posthaste!

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

A BIG one! Boy, do I hope the Holmnes/Watson fandom is prepared for the coming influx. The Kirk/Spock people might want to share some survival tips with them, I think. :D

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

"[... T]he fact that you steal my clothes."

"Holmes, does your depravity know no bounds?" "No."

I concede your point wholly and completely. So looking forward to this movie! \o/

... I could swear I read/heard the same phrase from someone else with Brokeback Mountain during the promotions of it. I think it was a woman. Practically the same words too.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

I think there were a number of people who claimed the boysnogging would turn women off, actually. People are so silly sometimes.

(I actually have a feminist theory about why this whole boytouching thing is such a strange comcept for people to understand, but I'm trying to avoid tealdearing at you.)

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

He really is rather adorably naive, isn't he? I just want to give him a cookie and send him off to play while the grownups talk about porn.

From: [identity profile] emeriin.livejournal.com

Oh Michael, you poor, naive little darling. *pets him*

But seriously though, I thought we had grown out of the whole "Women can't have sexual interests" thing. Would he really be saying that if, say, Amy Adams and Anne Hathaway (uh, my bunk awaits, excuse me) were making out instead?

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

But seriously though, I thought we had grown out of the whole "Women can't have sexual interests" thing.

Oh, we can have sexual interests, just only in the kind of things the boys tell us we're interested in, and definitely not something like men making out, because that makes the straight boys uncomfortable (and I have issues with that assertion as well, but one point at a time), so clearly it cannot turn their girlfriends on OR ELSE!

From: [identity profile] emeriin.livejournal.com

You'd think that people would just accept that boys tend to like girls making out and girls tend to like boys making out. But of course not, because one is far more normal than the other, right?

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Seriously! I mean, I understand confusion about "Wait, you're a lesbian, and you're writing gay porn?" because that is legitimately a bit confusing even to me. But "OMG (some) straight girls like man-on-man action? INCONCEIVABLE!" just makes me wanna headdesk.

I don't think it would be appealing to women.
Who is this idiot, and has he ever been introduced to this thing called 'the internet' before?
Also, Robert Downey Jr. kissing the (handsome) guy playing Watson in the (ridiculous looking) movie? H-O-T HOT!
Really, the only reason I want to see the movie at all is Rachel McAdams in that snazzy corset ensemble. She is adorable-sexy, and I'm getting so ridiculously excited for The Time Traveler's Wife that a little part of my brain hasn't stopped squeeing since I found out about her playing Clare.
