Important PSA to an anonymous cow-orker: smoking in the toilets? What are we, twelve?

Celebatory dinner with co-workers tonight in this restaurant, which I'm really looking forward to. :D

Also, my Italian co-worker looked concerned at me this morning and asked what was wrong with my hair."It looks all 'depress 80s pop singer'." Gee, um, thanks?

PSA: Will be without internet access at home until Friday, because I'm a moron. A broke one, to be exact. :/

(Anyone have any good Sims 2 downloads to recommend? Since I have to stay busy somehow?)

Food post backlog: Wednesday, Friday and today. Thursday seems to be missing (dammit!) but was pretty much the same as Friday.

From an e-mail from my Level Two this morning: "Hi All and a hearty and enthusiastic but overall groovy Monday morning to you all," followed by more of this, in the same vein. I am never drinking the machine coffee again. o_O

Cannot cope with work today. Off to Mordor. Send Sam Pippin Éowyn help. *whimper*

Aaaand I went out in the sun for ten minutes and already I'm sun burnt. Fuckin' evil yellow eye!

First of all: obligatory food post of the day. I'm thinking of doing pseudo-sushi some time this week -- stuffing wraps and slicing them into "sushi", and doing the same with pancakes for sweetness, something like that. Nor sure what I'd use, though. Suggestions welcome!

Monday Morning Co_Worker Weirdness: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap in Italian. Er, yes. I-- What?

Oh and here, have a dangerously cute icon.

Managed to execute a perfect spittake yesterday, complete with spraying two of my co-workers with coffee. *facepalm* M. is going down for making me laugh while I have a mouthful of coffee, you mark my words!

Of course, I did already get my revenge a little, by way of a fab customer who called up several times to get talked therough various steps of a process, and I was the third person he got through to. The following ensured:

Customer: So do you sit far away from [M. and J., the two people he'd previously spoken with]?
Melle: Eh, pretty close, we're a small team, really.
Customer: Excellent! In that case, what I want you to do is ball up two pieces of paper and then throw them at the both of them. :D

And so I did, because the customer is always right, hee! :D Especially the woman I helped yesterday, who sent a reply because she ran into a minor trip-up after following the instructions I'd sent by e-mail, and in her reply included:

Thanks for your help Sofie and your excellent attitude, patience and customer service. I am impressed and approaches like yours are what will keep a loyal customer base for [$software]. I am now also interested in purchasing version 7 thanks to your service.

That's right, bitches, respect mah skillz! Now if you'll excuse me, I must go and strut my stuff. \o/

(Not that I'm not still sending out CVs all over the place, but then it was never the job in and of itself that made/makes me want to leave. Sigh.)

While trying to decide which bar to go to for drinks on Friday:

Co-Worker: I would like to veto Walkabout, it is a very silly place indeed.
Melle: Besides, it's only a model ...
Everyone Else: ... huh?

HEATHENS! All of them!

(Aaaand when you're selling a company eleven semi-expensive handhelds, and setting them up for them, your response to "What browser are you using" should not be "Oh, good question, I'm not using Google or anytying ..." Then again, at least then I know you're probably using IE. Feh.)

* Note to self: While it would be technically not against the rules to use that greeting, please resist the urge anyway.

I'll be posting That Work E-mail, which I finally finished and sent this morning, under heavy friendslock in a bit, but for now, have a couple of amusing work quotes to make up for all the angst:

Customer: My PDA went down on me ...

Co-worker: Define "fuzzy".

And finally, some memes. This first one is a version of that one everyone else is doing, slightly adjusted by [livejournal.com profile] telesilla:

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll tell you where the characters are and what they're doing. It probably won't be fic, unless something really inspires me, but I will tell you what's up with them.

If you've done this one, feel free to poke me in the comments here as well, by the way. I've been bad about replying to posts.

And another meme, this one from [livejournal.com profile] bibliotech:

That meme where you have to say everything you know about those of your friends' fandoms that you know only through fannish representations, rather than through ever having watched any. So I will. Name a fandom and I will tell you what I think I know about it, derived only from my LJ experience.

Quick roundup of what I've been up to, since I apparently disappeared from LJ for a few days there:

Saturday: Had [livejournal.com profile] troubleinchina and [livejournal.com profile] padredon over for supper and an evening of Historical Inacuraccies And Slash. They liked the food, and I had company for what is already promising to be the Hot New Fandom--and for once, I'm in on the ground floor! :D

Sunday: Canadanadian Thanksgiving at [livejournal.com profile] troubleinchina and [livejournal.com profile] padredon's, in which there was lots of food, I stuffed myself with carbs and then rolled over to the couch, and the evening ended rather enjoyably with a big cuddlepile and [livejournal.com profile] intemporaliter trying to hide in my cleavage. My life is clearly made of win. \o/

Monday and Tuesday: Bleh work. Notable customers included the bloke who leered at the Text-To-Speech lady's voice while on the phone to me (... the hell now?), the twit who seemed to think that if he didn't like the solution I gave him for his problem, repeating "Surely there's got to be another way to fix this" a couple of hundred times would make me magic another fix out of thin air, and the arsehole who kept interrupting me with repeated descriptions of his problem while I was trying to tell him how to fix it. And then there's the co-worker who keeps coming over to talk to her friend sitting next to me to chat obnoxiously right next to me, augh. Do you people not have work to do?

Oh and here, have a meme. Trick or Treat! )

Meanies! All of you!

Augh. Hey coworkers with strong perfume, please don't stand so close to me? If I can smell it, it's got to be pretty bad. (Actually, I think I'm getting more and more sensitive to alcohol-based crap like that. I nearly choked last week when someone sprayed air freshener all over the toilets, and while I'm on the subject, what the hell is up with that? Hate!)

… I'm easily irritated today. Gah.

[ETA] Aaaaand now there's a stupid and offensive racist “joke” in my inbox. I hate forwards anyway, and this one makes me want to hit someone. I hate everything. Can I go home yet? [/ETA]

OH MY GOD DIE DIE DIE KILL IT KILL IT WITH FIRE! *twitches, froths at the mouth*

Uh, yeah, so work was of the bad today. It's just no a good sign when you're muttering the Litany Against Rage* under your breath before it's even gone ten. Aside from the usual fuckwittery from the field sales team, there were several times when I got through to voice mails and people all seemed to have recorded their message in a state of Extreme Boredom, like, what the hell people, it's called inflection, look into it, and then there were the people I called to try and get them to take a survey who seemed to take it as a personal insult, all "You must be joking," or laughing all "What was that all about?" to someone in the background before properly hanging up, which, it's a survey fool, and if you've never heard of that, it's not my fault you live under a rock, and my co-workers kept being EXTREMELY LOUD, as if I don't have enough issues with phone calls and background noise as it is, and AAAUUUUUUGH!

*deep breath*

The good news is, they handed out incentives today, and I got one, which is nice, especially as it came with £15 of vouchers for Debenham's, which I believe has a rather nice yarn department, which is very handy as we're coming up on the end of summer and I'll start knitting again soon, yaye! Oh, and then I got a call from someone with [livejournal.com profile] hokage's real name. Heeeee! Also got the second caller from my home town in three days, bringing the total after two years to ... two. Huh.

Also also, after some chasing up from me, I got my (emergency) overdraft, which means that from midnight tonight, I will no longer be broke. Thank fuck. Now I'll be able to actually buy chocolate and tobacco in Belgium. (Which reminds me, I should check if there's a limit on how much I can take back with me.)

In completely unrelated news, does anyone know what's happening/happened to [livejournal.com profile] who_daily?

* "I must not rage, rage is the mind-killer. Rage is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my rage. I will permit it to pass over me and through me, and when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the rage has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Okay, while I've been a lot less angry about my job lately, there is one thing that still drives me insane, and that's noise. I don't deal very well with loud noises anyway (music is different, because that's not noise, but even so I prefer that to be loud for me and quiet for everyone else, except at a concert or something, because I'm neurotic like that), but it's magnified by a factor of ten when I'm on the phone. I have a hard time concentrating on a phone conversation when anything is going on in the background, especially conversation, because my brain starts listening to the background conversation and then I get confused. So when I'm trying to do my job, which involves lots of telephone conversations, and people are standing right by my desk talking rather loudly, or even jumping up and down (so kidding!) halfway across the floor, it really annoys me, and I don't appreciate having eyes rolled at that annoyance. I'm all for enjoying your job, folks, but that's no reason to impede my ability to even do mine.

In more pleasant news, the (spoilery, natch) new companion photos are very pleasing. Well, in that New Companion is hot, anyway. I'm somewhat less convinced about Tennant's shirt.

Also, have asked CO if she'd like to come along to Pirates, and she was v. enthusiastic, whee!

[ETA]V. important poll. )

[/ETA]

[ETA2] ... CO just drive-by chocolated me. Um. Wheeeeee! yes, i'm a dork, shaddup. [/ETA2]

Random Co-worker Voice: "Frodo?"
I just don't know about these people, man.

My baby brother has now officially graduated from secondary school. I'm feeling so old, man. It seems like only yesterday that I took his twelve-year old self to see TPM and we fraked out people at the train station on the way back by having pretend lightsaber fights and singing the Imperial March at each other. And now he's all grown up! (Well, as groqn up as anyone in this family ever gets, heh.)

Today is shaping up to be v. annoying. Shall comfort self by making desserty stuff for the Expat Party and licking the bowl. Mmm, chocolatey goodness ...

I'm in a disgustingly good mood today, for no apparent reason. Well, possibly because I'm wearing my stripey socks. Stripey socks are LOVE! :D Also, waking up to this (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] amatia!) is the best way ever to start a day. Ha!

was going to whinge here about a certain annoying supervisor, but I already subjected [livejournal.com profile] wibbble to that on the bus yesterday, so whatever. Threatening me with other people getting angry with me is not an effective management technique, is all I'm saying, especially when a) I don't give a shit, and b) said other people quite blatantly don't, either.

[ETA] On the other hand, I'm glad I'll likely be here until the World Cup is over, as they've now installed a Big-Arse Flat Screen TV not just in the canteen, but actually right here on the call floor so we can follow the football. You know, I don't remember this from the Europa Cup two years ago, and Scotland's not even in this one! OTOH, with an international call centre, I suppose it's inevitable that at least some people's national teams will be in the running. In conclusion: Bweeee! [/ETA]

(Okay, I'm wearing a bra, an undershirt, and a t-shirt, and my nipples are still showing throught. WTF? It's not that cold, either, and its not just the pierced one!)

I'm going to be doing training for most of today, which, bleeeech. Not that don't like this girl, but I'm so used to doing my own thing every day and not having other people around, and it's annoying. How am I supposed to LJ/e-mail/jobhunt with someone around, dammit?

Link of the Day: Stephen Harper does not 'eat babies'. Bwahahahaha! I love Canada.

There's a new Dutch-speaking person starting today, which is good because it means I'll have proper backup at last, but also bad because she's sitting with me this morning and that means I can't goof off, boo.

A post in [livejournal.com profile] edinburgers made me think about maybe joining a gym o something like that--I know I need to start going swimming again, and the nearest swimming pool has one of those Pulse Centers attached to it, which seem to be affordable. I need to do stomach exercises, because my stomach muscles are so out of shape it's really starting to affect my back, and I need to tighten my quadriceps before they start pulling my kneecaps out of alignment again, and I'd really like to build some arm muscles, and only partiallly because it'd make crossdressing more convincing. On the other hand, money, and also, I'm very lazy. I might go this weekend and see what all is available, how much it costs, and if I want to do this regularily.

Also, gender quiz, speaking of crossdressing. )

... Morning! I've not yet decided if it's a good one or not, that'll depend on what all is in the thirty-odd e-mails waiting for me. Gnar.

Apparently, the other two people in the department who've been here since the beginning are leaving. Actually, one of them's already left, more or less. I somehow missed all this, of course. Me + gossip = anti!OTP. I'm now even more determined to get myself a new job, like, yesterday. (Especially as I'm thisclose to hopping on a plane to Brussels for the sole reason of bitchslapping some sense into people. Must. Control. Fist. Of. Death.)

I made lentil soup yesterday, and I'm very much looking forward to lunch today. :D

(ARGH! Does anyone know how to make LJ stop defaulting to the WYSIWYG update page? It's driving me bonkers! And clicking the "source" button to switch to no preformatting doesn't work in Firefox, grrr.)

[ETA] Eureka! [/ETA]

Overheard At Work:

One: What're you doing with your money?
Two: I ... I ate it?

I just ... don't want to know, do I?

I have a post brewing about blood ties versus chosen family and stuff, but that might take a while. LIke, a couple of days, probably. In the meantime, though, it's brought on another question , and therefore an excuse for a poll. )

(Sorry for the deleted entry/repost, folks, I'd forgotten to add the second question.)

In other news, I just went to the loo, and the stall smelled of cotton candy. o_O I am officially afraid of my co-workers.
