Going to hell. Emma Watson? I hate you and your underaged self.

So what exactly have Dan and Rupert been up to? they look like they've not slept in three days. Oh, the possibilities, ...

(Molly? If you're driver of the bus to hell, I'm, like, the ticket checker, I think.)

These are just visual aids for the whole "girls mature faster than boys" thing. She's all put together and posed for the photo shoot, and they look like schmucks. I can see what you mean about her underaged self, but, honestly, if I saw her in real life, I'd probably hate her on sight. Of course, for my current HP story (now a mere .1K shorter than the Harry/Draco long-ass thing I've mostly given up on), I can see why Draco would want to be friends with Hermione. (Have you noticed how this story has taken over my brain? Current "someday maybe I'll write a potentially publishable novel thought": Developing Astra for this is preparing me to develop OCs for universes I'll have to invent from scratch. And she's the second step; the creation of the theology in the Viggo/Orlando slave AU was the first step.

From: [identity profile] meacoustic.livejournal.com

That was a tangent you went off on there!

Rupert especially looks like a schmuck. At least Dan is maturing into someone marginally attractive. Compared to the press photos from the release of SS, I mean.

So weird to look at the picture of Emma from when the kids were first cast and compare it to this. She's the same age as Jamie-Lynn Spears and she looks a lot older.

From: [identity profile] meacoustic.livejournal.com

I was wearing a bra in 3rd grade, much to my dismay. Damn early development! It's possible that what we see there is all natural, except then she most likely wouldn't be that skinny with a chest like that. For a lot of girls I know, a bit of fat in one place means a bit of fat in other places as well.

I'm a tangenting fool! Plus, I kept thinking that and Melle's e-mail seems to be mostly on the fritz and I'm never on AIM, so LJ comments have become my main mode of fandom discourse.

I think it's funny that you think Dan is more attractive now. I think he was definitely better looking and more disturbing (in that an eleven-year-old shouldn't have looked that good/grown-up) last year.

From: [identity profile] meacoustic.livejournal.com

He was a little creepy in last year's premiere photos. Maybe they were just bad photos. Or maybe I was just distracted by Emma's shoes.

Anyway, I do think he looks better now. Even with that dorky grin. I just wish someone would un-vampire-ize Rupert.

I thought he was much more attractive in this set of photos, although not, perhaps, that exact one.

From: [identity profile] meacoustic.livejournal.com

I think the lighting in that set of photos (I've seen originals at wireimage) was funky. He's too pale. Only Nicole looks good that pale.

I feel the need to justify Astra because she's taking over my brain and the story, and I want it to be clear that she's not a Mary Sue type of OC.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re: Also

Heh. I already knew that. I know you'd make sure she's not.

(Also, I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with a MS, as long as she's also a well-drawn, likeable character.)

Re: Also

I think annoying is in the definition of "Mary Sue".

I doubt Astra would qualify anyway. She's not like me, Draco and Hermione are her only friends, and she's a bit insane, although there's a reason for that. I know what's going on with her, but the characters in the story don't, and I don't want to talk about it to you because I keep thinking that if I do, then the characters will find out too.

What, you're suspecting me of blabbing secrets to your characters? why, I never! ;D

Re:

You'd hate her? Why?

In my experience, developing characters isn't the hardest thing about writing non-fanfic. I've found that once I learned how to get across characterisation in fanfic, I could do it in non-fanfic, too, and then the characters started developing themselves. it's the world-building that gives me problems. of course, I write mainly SF&F, so there is that.
rsadelle: (Default)

From: [personal profile] rsadelle

Because she has that whole obnoxious teenage style thing going on.

I think the world-building is much easier than the characterization. I have this idea in mind for a stock sci-fi/fantasy novel with lesbians, and the world is built in my head, but I can't get a handle on the characters.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

Huh. See, around here, teenage style involves eye-hurting colours and five-inch soles. I only wish kids would dress like this around here, it'd make life a lot easier for my retinas.

rsadelle: (Default)

From: [personal profile] rsadelle

It's not just that it's the teenage style, but that nearly everyone dresses like that. It's my complaint about celebrities these days too: they're all starting to look alike, and that's just boring. (The fact that the actors in the American version of Queer As Folk look like such stereotypical actors is one of the main reasons I have no interest in watching it.)

I want to do that, but I've been frustrated at every turn by my computer. See, I want a two-sided form. So I set up the margins so that they're the same on each side of the page. But then when I print it (either on my printer or my mom's), the edges of the tables (which are the width of the page) aren't even on either side, which means that if they're put two-sided, you can see through the page to the lines on the other side. I need to just nudge the margins so that they will line up, but I got frustrated with it last time I messed with it and temporarily gave it up. Not, of course, that I'm a little obsessive-compulsive or anything like that

I went and looked at the long-ass Harry/Draco thing today, and it's really pretty good. I may have to figure out what I want to do with it. Piecces of it need to be reworked, but I was surprised by how much I liked some of it.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

I don't often don't finish a story once I'm really into it, mostly because a lot of the time, I keep the story in my head until it's completely gestated -- or at least until the plot is, until I know the general lines along which I want the story to go.

I do have a file around somewhere with bits and pieces and snippets that never made it into a story, for whatever reason, and some of the dialogue bits I still think are pretty good.

I was re-reading Bad the toher day and was highly surprised by the lack of awefulness. It's still rather average, but compared to the other things I wrote around that time, it's pretty good. Hm.
rsadelle: (Default)

From: [personal profile] rsadelle

I don't usually finish things like that either; it's enough for me to have it written for myself in my head. (Yes, I really do mean it when I say I write for myself.) But I think this long-ass thing may be close enough to being done that I could pull it off.

I keep everything. I have a whole bunch of 1K .txt files that are first sentences or miscellaneous paragraphs.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

Well, it's a fine line between jumping off the deep end without knowing where I'm going, which usually means I'll drown halfway through, and having the entire story in my head, which usually means I'll not write it unless I have some actual phrases and words in my head that I want to get out.

I usually slap all the unfinished bits I have together after a while of inactivity, because I'm anal like that. I want to have them all in one place. I've got a whole binder of snippets, bits and pieces I wrote longhand and never finished around here somewhere, as well.
