Yes, thank you, Marcus, I needed to cry before lunch. *sniffle*
This is a really cute picture to me, for some reason. And certain people who hate Ron can just shut up, because I adore the boy, so there. :p
And this ...
A drabble, because my Marcus Muse is always intent on being in the exact opposite mood from LumosNox!Marcus:
Acrophobia
Marcus Flint is afraid of heights. He was born on rock bottom -- his father in Azkaban, his mother scared, alone and poor -- and it's his home, it's what he knows. He doesn't know how to fly without a broom, and it scares him.
Sometimes, when Oliver kisses him and talks about love, it feels like he's flying. So he pushes Oliver away, because "This isn't some fucking romance novel," because he can't leave the ground, can't trust Oliver to keep them both flying.
So instead of flying and risking to fall, he jumps, because rock bottom is what he knows.
Yeah, I don't know, either. This fandom has unleashed my inner litgeek. I used to be all about the witty dialogue and the banter, and now I've turned into Metaphor!Girl. Oi.
Meryl, I'm working on your Ter/Oli, okay? And I promise, no metaphors in that one, just pretty b boys and sparkly clothes and music even I'm ashamed to admit I like.

And I think it works well as a metaphor, too. :) Seriously, though. Short, succint, and atmosphere without clunky detail. I like.
And I'm terribly torn, now, because I like "risking to fall" - it strikes me as a vaguely classical construction (although that could just be TiredBrain) but at the same time I keep wondering if "a" would be better. But it wouldn't have the same effect.
Hrm.
... heh. like I needed another question-without-answer to ponder.

didn'task me *wink*) -1:
"So instead of flying and risking a fall, he jumps, because rock bottom is what he knows."
It sounds like 'a fall' is any fall. Any loss of control, any straying from between those carefully crafted lines. (Am going off the Marcus in my head, sorry if he's dissimilar from yours.) Alludes to a lifetime of regiment and planning.. very Percy-like in that, only Marcus plans his rages as well. Constructs and sets the scenes, so as to give the appearance of being out-of-control, but is actually in control so much that he's a socio-cum-psychopath. Which leaves the door open for all sorts of
beautiful razorbladesexploration of that.3 (orig):
"So instead of flying and risking to fall, he jumps, because rock bottom is what he knows."
The 'to' is so short and aspirated, it reads rushed and overlays onto Marcus' emotions.. like just thinking about falling, about risking.. it gives him a quick moment of panic. As though everything were suddenly speeded up. And the broom/quidditch is great. It's a sport, people are expected to be overcome with passion and extremes and give into their love/hate of the opposing team. With his broom (I'll spare you symbolism of it being made of wood) and his game he has a place to hide in plain sight, a set of rules to hedge, and carte-blanche to beat the hell out of anyone who threatens those rules ("He hit me and it felt like a kiss..").

P.S. Since I worry about these things, if you'd rather I didn't comment in your journal feel free to tell me to step off.

Re:
Yes, yes, yes, all of those are EXCELLENT points, and now I'm thinking I should've gone with "risking a fall," because it's not just Oliver, although Oliver is his biggest risk, because nothing and no one else ever came close to making him fly before.
Hm. Must keep this in mind for future M/O characterisations ...
Thank you!
