Acrophobia

Marcus Flint is afraid of heights.

He was born on rock bottom -- his father in Azkaban, his mother scared, alone and poor -- and it's his home, it's what he knows. He doesn't know how to fly without a broom, and it scares him.

Sometimes, when Oliver kisses him and talks about love, it feels like he's flying. So he pushes Oliver away, because "This isn't some fucking romance novel," because he can't leave the ground, can't trust Oliver to keep them both flying.

So instead of flying and risking to fall, he jumps, because rock bottom is what he knows.

Yeah, I don't know, either. This fandom has unleashed my inner litgeek. I used to be all about the witty dialogue and the banter, and now I've turned into Metaphor!Girl. Oi.

Meryl, I'm working on your Ter/Oli, okay? And I promise, no metaphors in that one, just pretty b boys and sparkly clothes and music even I'm ashamed to admit I like.

Yes, yes, yes, all of those are EXCELLENT points, and now I'm thinking I should've gone with "risking a fall," because it's not just Oliver, although Oliver is his biggest risk, because nothing and no one else ever came close to making him fly before.

Hm. Must keep this in mind for future M/O characterisations ...
