So someone (A) posts an OT message in one of the communities I'm in. Someone else (B) points out the OT-ness. A denies it's OT-ness, because "it's about me, and I'm a member of this community." I kid you not. I step in and point out, in perfectly nice, understandable English, that it is OT, and that OT-ness is generally not looked kindly upon. A replies that geez, she'll delete it already, she's sorry for annoying me, it's only the second time, and some people take LJ way too seriously. I'm not touroughly irritated and snipe:

Please, don't flatter yourself. And don't pull that "there are more important things than LJ" crap, either. There are, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't stick to netiquette.

I'm merely pointing this out, since you didn't seem to gte it last time, when SEVERAL people have told you you were OT. And it may just be the second time in this community, but sine you're obviously unfamiliar with the concept of netiquette, and not that willing to learn, I will speak up about it.

And someone replies:

Ok......since you obviously invented the internet and know so much about Netiquette why don't you post what we should and shouldn't do.

why don't you also post what we should and shouldn't wear...

what we should look like, what we should belive in...

is it okay if i eat breakfast today, mommy? whine whine whine moan moan moan cry cry cry

hows that for netiquette?

So, what, asking for some fucking common courtesey makes me a control-freak and a nazi now? Argh! *breaks things* Idiots!

It's not my community, is the thing. I have no authority, and since the moderator of the community doesn't seem all that inclined to step in firmly, I'm thinking of just leaving.

And yeah, see, the comparison with the beta process is exactly right. Because yes, when I get corrected about breaking rules, or when I get told I need to snip my favourite phrase in the whole story, it stings. At times, I step away from the computer and go have a private hissy fit and then come back and be a rational human being.

Unfortunately, "rational human being" seems to be a curse name these days.

but maybe you don't have to snip that favorite phrase but re-work the scene

to amke it work better - make the reader see it and hear it better.... :> But in order to do that, the editor has to be honest and the author has to be open. And sure, it stings but rationality and being an adult when it counts counts for a hell of a lot. You and I are gonna work together fine, I think.

As for the list and the person who runs and the other twits there, leave it behind. You've got other (more fun) things to do with your life than deal with bullshit. :>
