When are those %$?* Palestinians going to stop murdering Israelis and just let them live?Um, you know, that conflict goes both ways. Yes, the Palestinians kill Israelis. And then the Israeli army goes into the Palestinian areas and kills some people. And then the Palestinians retaliate, etc. etc. This is not a case of the poor Israelis being randomly murdered by the vicious, evil Palestinians. This is a conflict that goes back at least sixty year, and even longer if you're really gonna dig back.I did a huge-ass essay on this when I was sixteen, yo. I know about this conflict.
(tingilya; LJ)
It's horrible, and sad, and has claimed way, way, way to many lives over the course of sixty years, but the reason it's been going on since then is precicely because there is blame on both sides!
And now I'll stop myself before I launch into a veritable diatribe on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and why it's still not resolved. Nobody wants to hear that, right? Thought so.

Unfortunately, you put large groups of people together, the collective maturity level drops to near age 2.
At this point, I can't see anything changing significantly until both sides realise that it DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER who started it anymore. It's past time for both sides to grow the fuck up and say "right. Starting today, we're going to behave like intelligent mature adults, and come to some sort of agreement that we can live with." Because the majority of the problems with coming to a compromise for peace is that they keep being fucking petty about stupid things, and ignoring the big picture.
This is almost identical to the problems in Northern Ireland. People are too busy being worked up to actually think rationally about *why* they do shit.
I also think that American citizens perpetuate the problems- not just the political support from the US gov't for one side or the other, but independent Americans who send food/money/guns to support The Cause, fanning the flames from their nice safe non-terrorised-or-war-torn homes in suburbia. Obviously they're not solely responsible for the continuation, but it seems to me that they're really removed enough from the immediate situation that they should be able to look at the whole thing much more rationally and logically, and perhaps be trying to encourage some sort of peaceful solution, rather than supporting the conflicts. Pity that most Americans aren't terribly good at logic, being rational, or, in fact, THINKING.
Ahem.
(And I'm allowed to be rude about Americans because I am one. I am intimately familiar with the fact that most of the people in my country are ignorant, undereducated morons. Why do you think I'm not in a hurry to move back?)
er. sorry. I got carried away a bit. :) (Neph gets bored of politics, so I'm not allowed to rant about them to him anymore. Once I get started I go for hours.) (Don't ask me about The Shrub, aka Bush jr.)
