Still nothing from the U2 plagiarism situation. I'm pretty sure the majority of the list is doin, basically, what I'm doing, and waiting for a reaction from either the listmum or the author, both of whom are remaining silent.

Just checked the list archives, and the post(s, it was double-posted) with the story have been removed, so either the listmum or the author have taken some sort of steps. The author is still on the list.

I want to try and email the listmod to say I'd like her to publically take a stand one way or another. Those of you who're on the list, a) do you think I should, and b) if you agree, can I mention this in my email. (Strength in numbers and all.)

I'm not on the list

but you have my support anyway; both because of my stand on plagiarism to start with and also cause both you and Joanne are my friends too.

So I got a response from her. (From my mail in private) She said that she tried to get ahold of Joanne via email, but she'd been having trouble with her account so she doesn't know if it ever got there. (Though the fact that she asked, and didn't wait for a reply kinda miffs me a bit.) I would guess that she's been talking to the list mod and that she's going to try and get ahold of Joanne. (Sice she said she would do both)

I thought you might like to know that your letter upset her. She was "offended."

Outside of that, I have no clue what's going on.

Good. *grim smile*

Seriously, though, at this point I don't care which stand the listmod takes, I just want to know something. Silence is a statement, too.

And what, she could tell you she was offended, but not me? Feh, again.

(Could I ask for an exact quote? Call me curious. ^_^)

Re:

I don't have it, but, "it offended me" was more or less what she said. I guess she was embarrassed or something, because she wasn't offended by my letter.

And yes, silence is a stetement. It would be nice to reassured that it's been taken care of. At the very least.

Or at least that she's aware of the probblem. Gah.

Well, I can tell you

I never got an email from her, but admittedly my mail was a bit erratic when I was having computer probs recently.

However, I'm miffed too that she didn't wait to hear.

Melle wasn't offensive, she was v. controlled. Of course, I seem to have a bad judgement of what's offensive at times...

Re: Well, I can tell you

I didn't find her offensive either. She didn't flame or curse, and she most certainly could have.

And even if she had I would be hard pressed to feel particularly bad...

And that. Yeah. I wouldn't expect her to point the finger and roast anyone. Just, y'know, say that she won't stand for it and what she will do if it happens again.

Go ahead, dear. I seem to be pissing off people left and right today. One more shouldn't hurt. :) Can you tell that I'm in bad mood? :grins:

Re: *hugs*

You are welcome. I admire you for standing up for what you believe is right. I would have said something but since I only starting posting on that board a few days ago I felt uncomfortable. I'm also right now not in the right state of mind to saying anything.

Please do e-mail the mod, and go ahead and mention that I agree with you.

Plagiarism

As the list mod, I do indeed have an opinion. The list guidelines state that "The stories that are posted here are the sole property of their authors. Please don't copy them or archive them elsewhere without permission as it will be disrespectful to the hard work of the writers." This applies to plagiarized stories from non-list members as well. Also, if it were my story that had been stolen, I would want the offender to be violently punished. :)

I feel that I should wait to see what the opinion of the original author, Cassandra Williams, is on the issue. However, I haven't found a valid email address for her. If you have her email, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send it to me. I see that no one else has posted regarding the matter, nor have I received any private emails except an apology from the offender and a request that I remove her posts. That says to me that no one really cares except you and me. I do not wish to take action until I have heard from all sides of the issue. If I don't hear from the original author fairly soon, I will still take action.

If you'd like to discuss privately, my email is farishta@earthlink.net

Re: Plagiarism

If you have an opinion, how about taking a public stand on it?

And the opinion of the plagiarised author should not matter in deciding whether you take a public stand or not. At the very least, we'd have appreciated a note that you were aware of the issue and were on the case. And I way "we" because people sure as fuck do care. Several people from the list are on my friends list, and they've posted things about it. They were just not speaking up on the list or to you because I'd already spoken up. Please don't try to make this out as if I'm the only one with a problem here.

Cassandra's email is ben_matt@yahoo.com, or m7traxlady@yahoo.com, which is the one on the story I'll give her your email so she can contact you.

And I'm still leaving the list, I'm sorry. This is just the straw (so to speak; I think it's a bit worse than a straw) that broke the camel's back.)

I did. You can go read it.
I chose to do so in my own time after I had considered the issue enough to make the decision I felt was best.

And the opinion of the plagiarised author should not matter in deciding whether you take a public stand or not.

It didn't. However, when it comes to reprimanding the offender, I feel that the plagiarized party should have some say. That's what I meant when I said I wanted to consider all sides of the issue. Sorry for not clarifying.

Whether you leave the list or not is your decision. No matter what decision I make on this issue, not everyone will be happy with it. I consider it my duty as moderator to take a stand on the issue after having considered it logically, and I consider it my duty to take appropriate action to ensure that it doesn't happen again. It is not my duty to make you happy.

Re: Plagiarism

I read it. Right now, I consider it too little too late. The story was posted five days ago, and if I hadn't gone into the archives and seen the story removed, none of us would've had any idea you were even aware of the problem. A simple note saying "I'm aware of the accusations/controversy/whavever" would've made us all a lot happier. That wouldn't have even involved any actual reprimands yet, but it would've made you an actual good listmod.

It may not be your suty to make me happy, but as a listmod, you do have a duty to, I don't know, moderate (I wasn't not alone in this, you know. Look up in the thread and you'll see at least three listmembres have posted agreeing with me.)

And since you're dealing with the offender "privately", I'll take that to mean there's no public apology forthcoming, take my ass off the fucking list. Because, yes, thank you so much for acknowledging that that's my decision.
