This still amuses me. Free The LiveJournal Three! Possible because it's late and I'm immresed in my IRA research and well, I'm trying to make sense of it all and it's nice to have things like this to lugh about so there.
Hee hee. [rattles tin up against the bars] We shall overcoooome, soooome daaaaaay...God, that seems like a million years ago, eh?
Indeed. Funny how time flies in fandom, innit? One day you're a high school student finding dirty pron stories online, and the next you're a anfry, bitter fan hag writing the most looked-down-upon things in fandom and snarking about how certain fandoms went to heck.
Meanwhile, the Jedi Hurtaholics archive gets shutdown, Warner Brothers wants to strangle HP slash in its cradle--and here we still are. How did *that* happen, eh?
And let's not forget that RPS was "outed" in one of the UK's leading music magazines and there wasn't even a letter to the editor in reaction. More proof (as if we needed it) that the only people getting their knickers in a twist over RPF and RPS are fanficcers and slashers themselves.
And the thing that really annoyed me about the JHA was that it happened to someone who was supportive of our right to RPS, so I couldn't even gloat about it. Grrrr.
Oh, I'm not gloating--the poor woman would have been fine if she hadn't had the complete misfortune of running into those "Site of the Day" assholes (them and Portal of Evil--shudder). It's just...*cute,* though, how slashers manage to go into a frenzy over exactly the wrong things every damned time.
But I wanted to gloat, dammit! Whine. I wanted one of the really rabid anti's get c&d'ed. (*coughTecough*) I wanted to point and laugh and go "HA-ha! You got C&D'ed and I didn't. Now who's risking legal actions, huh?" And I can't and that pissed me off.
And yeah, it's the reason why she was C&D'ed that sort of bugs me. The incertainty about fanfic is ... annoying, for lack of a better word. Basically, FPS is safe as long as no one draws TPTB's attention to it. It gives just about every Joe Shmuck with a chip on his shoulder and a stick up his ass has power over me and that's not something I like.
The whole JHA thing got me thinking, too. If I get C&D'ed tomorrow about, say, RS-X or SEX or any of the personal RPS sites (highly unlikely considering the lack of traffic, but whatever) I'm pretty sure I'd do whatever was in my power to keep the stories up. If I get a C&D from the Tolkien heirs tomorrow, chances are the archive'll go down, if only because Id be on shaky ground, legally.
Seriously. My policy page wasn't ever listed as a site of the day but low and behold, one day I got an e-mail from Yarbo's representative... (Moment of terror.) Nothing said about her page, just a request that I change Not with out permission to Never. Babbling.
It's a combination of traffic and where you are linked.
