My Hot Topic package has arrived. I now have:

• Spikes -- Which I shall carefully apply to my bag, coat and um. Brother, heh.

• "I'm lost, please take me with you?" T-shirt.
• Black vinyl cami.
• "Sorry, I prefer Girls" tank top -- Which isn't included in the invoice, oddly.

And for once, it was here on time, did not cost me anything in taxes (wow!), nothing was on backorder, the two T-shirts that were out of stock I didn't want badly anyway, and I managed to pick the right size for everything.

GET the rainbow and some don't. I bought a few stickers from them a week or so ago; one of which was just the strip of rainbow for my truck. The way I look at it is those who know about it will see it and go 'cool' (I hope:), and those who don't have an f'in clue won't comment cause they don't know. A lot of people only see what they want to see anyway.

The t-shirt you got sounds cool!

The thing about the rainbow is, it's really not as much of a glb symbol over here as in the States. In Euope (or at least in Belgium), the pink triangle is much more prevalent.

Pink triangle is orginally from the concentration camps. People encamped (?) for homosexuality had to wear it on their uniforms. Cfr. the David Star for Jews.

cause even though some people wear their ignorance like a shroud, I don't like being in the dark about stuff.

And ya know, there are a LOT of books about how various European races were treated during WWII by Hitler and his people, but I don't think I've ever seen anything on the treatment of homosexuals, which means it's a misrepresented part of history that must be told.

I remember reading here on LJ (I don't remember who said it) that when they went to one of the concentration camps, the sign outside said that homosexuality would never be tolerated. Now that sucks big time and I think consciousness needs to be raised over the issue. We all know that the Jews and the Polish and the Dutch and other places and peoples were treated badly by Hitler's Germans (I hesitate to say just 'Germans' because it's not them now) but it is never ever raised about homosexuals unless you go there and see it.

Hmmmm - now I gotta think about who would publish such a book and who she would get to write it....

Actually, there are at least three or four books out about "forgotten victims of the Holocaust"; a friend of mine did a presentation about Jehova's Witnesses and holebi's (Homo, Lesbian and Bisexual people) in the camps, back in high school.

The thing is there seems to be a big difference between the conception of the WWs in America and in Europe. Most Americans seem to see it as v. good vs evil, whereas especially in Belgium, people are more aware of things like the collaboration, which is still a sore point with a whole lot of people.

Of course, then there's the attitude of "We saved your asses and therefore you must be eternally grateful and always agree with what the USA does," which thankfully v. little people seem to have anymore. This really pisses me of in reference to WW1, because the USAians may have "freed" the country, but "us" Belgians kept a small corner of the country free throughout the whole war, and at terrible cost.

So, yeah. I'm a history geek, and the wars are two of my pet periods. ^_^
