Have there ever been any fanfic writers who got into legal trouble (or any trouble other than a flame from some parent and a reader who got his internet privildges provoked? Cause i'm getting a tad irritated about all the insistance that minors stay far, far away from the evil slash. One: you did your legal duty when you warned us. No one's likely to be suing you over one lost minor reading your page. Relax a little. Two: unless every last one of your stories is NC-17, demanding we leave your entire site is a bit over the freakin' top. And I swear, no matter how few and far between the ones who actually believe that smut is baaaaad for minors are, they are going to send me into a fucking snit one of these days. Grar!
(Note, btw, how I still count myself among 'us minors', even though according to Belgian law, I've never been of illegal age to read smut. Whoo. Novel concept, huh, slashers from countries outside the US? Fuckers.)
There is a reason none of my list require age statements. I did that quite deliberately, as a way to flip the whole fucking (smut-writing) world the two-fingered salute. It went by unnoticed (duh), but I'm still glad I made it.

*nods* Canada doesn't really have a set age of consent. There's something like a three-year rule for actual sex - ie. if you're fourteen and sleeping with a nineteen-year-old, that's illegal [*raises hand guiltily*], while if you're twelve and sleeping with a fifteen-year-old, that's just peachy. So, I dunno. Maybe I'm allowed to read slash, as long as the characters are nineteen and under?
But my point is, the slash/fanfic community is, by definition, a global one, and shouldn't have to be defined by American laws - especially since theirs seem to be the most unrelenting and [from my point of view] unreasonable.
And.. well, you know how I feel about all this. Maybe I can't really feel any other way, given the position I'm in, but.. yeah. Y'know.

Ta. ^_^ I know a number of people did muchly appreciate not having to lie about their ages (like, hello, the current listmom! :D), but the fanfic world at large is unaware of rareslash. Which is kinda weird, cause it's a goddamn huge list these days.
(And I miss my intimate little listlet. Sigh. But time moves on.)
Legal age for actual intercourse in Belgium is 16, and we also have the three-year-rule when you're between 16 and 18. (Which, to me, sorta makes sense, you know? Cause 3 years can be a big age gap at that age, and it's so easy for older people to pressure a younger partner into something they're not really ready for.)
I could check out de Sade and other erotic/prnographic novels from the library when I was 14, so I'm assuming that's legal age for reading smut. (I'm not sure, though.) so as I said, I've never done anything illegal for me, and no one could get sued for letting me at the smut, either. (Not that my parents would've sued, but. You know.)
