And why should they? No one is put on this world to comply to the
majority's opinion, especially since the majority isn't always right. 

By doing things like this, R.E.M. are sending a message to the world
that yes, there are gay people in the world, and they have as much right
as straight people to publicly show their affection. I happen to think
that's a good thing, and I applaud them for this.

I would like to think that Mike, being friends with a bisexual man
(Michael, duh) has raised his son with the principle that there is
nothing wrong with being gay, and/or with loving someone of the same
sex. There probably isn't anything more disgusting or shocking about
seing his dad kssing Michael than there would be about him kissing a
woman.
