So I'm looking at this job, which on the surface looks like something I could enjoy doing -- admin stuff in an IT environment, presumably surrounded by geeks or at least pseudo-geeks. Except then I see this in the "Key Responsabilities" bit:

Influencing managers and staff, over whom you have no authority

... That just somehow strikes me as a red flag. o_O

Or that the person who wrote that has an amusing sense of humor? I snickered.

Or maybe the person who used to do this job was trying to boss people around? That's kinda a reason for me not to apply, though. I'm bossy. :/

But! No authority! Which to me sounds like "You're supposed to make people behave, but we're giving you no way to MAKE them behave," and I've put up with quite enough of that bullshit. :/

You tell me, love.

And seriously, I actually like doing tech support, it's the outsourcing part of it that's making me twitch and rant, mostly. That, and bullshit policies. :/

Yeah, it's on my list of jobs to think/call about for later this week. There's just something about the phrase that bugs me, but since the job sounds otherwise really nice, I'm tempted to go ahead and apply anyway even if only to see why that was put in there. (Curiosity killed the cat ...)

That almost sounds like they're trying to scare people off, because yeah, everyone wants a job where they have responsibility but no authority.

See, exactly. And really, while my parsing of the job sounds like I'd like it, careful reading makes it look like they're basically going to throw a bunch of crap at me and expect no backtalk. Which, no. I can take a lot of crap, but the backtalk is a given. :D

That's most jobs, I think they're just being more honest than usual. /optimist
