I had to go pick up some stuff from Boots (peroxide and shower gel, mostly) and decided I'd see if the pharmacist could recommend something for the weird yeast/fungal infection patch thing on my hand, before it got worse. (Right now it just looks like a peal-y callous (sp?) patch, but the first time it spread to the first three fingers of my hand and cracked and bled so badly I was afraid my fingers were going to fall off.) So I go up to the counter, show her the patch, explain that I've had this before (only twice, though--it only shows up in periods of extreme stress and lowered immuninty), and I think they gave me cortizone cream for it? She takes a closer look, and tells me I have ... athlete's foot. On my hand.

Why do I always get the weird ailments, dammit? *facepalm* (Or maybe not.)

And then I got peroxide on it, which hurt like a goddamn bitch, ow. The end.

Only you! ;p How on earth did you manage to get it on your hand? I've never heard of anything like that before. Do you dry your hands properly after doing dishes and such? Because I do know that if you have athlete's foot on your feet it's important to keep them dry.

Maybe you got athlete's hand by smacking bitches. Have you been smacking bitches lately?

I did actually originally have it on my foot, and I think it transferred to my hand because I kept picking at it. Oddly enough, while the one on my hand keeps coming back intermittently, the one on my foot never has, for some reason.

Not drying my hands properly probably doesn't help, yeah. I have a bad habit of just wiping my hands on my trousers and then letting it air-dry.

Not that I recall, but then I must be doing something weird in my sleep to get all these random bruises!

I'm still trying to figure out how I managed to apparently fracture my toe in my sleep...

I was 100 % sure it would be spelled 'calluous', but my dictionary says your spelling is fine and it has never heard of mine. Learned something new again. Grrr.

And I thought you need to wear shoes and socks and stuff to create a climate that keeps athlete's foot alive and prosperous. Yours must be the new & improved edition.

Eep. Picking is not good! :\

*nod* That's what I thought you did. That combined with stress and other things, no wonder you get it. I hope you get it to go away.

Athlete's foot? Really? Because, based on your description, it sounds like eczema. Really, really bad eczema, but eczema nonetheless. My sister gets the exact same thing. Starts off as a patch on the back of her hand, spreads to three of her fingers, cracks and peels and bleeds like a son of a gun, happens during times of extreme stress (or winter, for her). She usually had to get a specially medicated cortizone because OTC stuff just gets laughed at by her skin.

I don't know; it matches the symptoms of Athlete's foot to a t, is the thing--blisters, etc.--and it seems strange that it'd show up for the first time so late in my life. (I think I was 22 at the time.) But hey, the OTC stuff works (it's almost gone now!), so either way, I'm happy. :D

Clearly! The only thing I can think of is that it's my mouse hand, so maybe the sweatiness of that and me not drying off my hands properly is what encourages it? Huh.

It's been strapped up for a week now, so it's mostly okay.

But it was /very/ random.
