Man, I just do not have the concentration to write for an hour straight. I lost a lot of my ability to concentrate due to depression and anxiety disorder. Mind you, now that I'm mostly over all that I'm improving greatly. Like, a year ago I could barely read a book for ten minutes straight, and now I could read for an hour. So maybe I'll get back my ability to concentrate on writing again in the near future as well :)

I've found that one thing that helps a lot is to get an egg timer, set it to fifteen minutes, and then write whatever comes to mind, not going back to "fix" or re-read or anything. If, by the end of those fifteen minutes, you still want to keep going (as in, you're in the middle of a scene you want to finish, for example), you set the timer for another fifteen minutes, and again, don't stop until it goes off. That's worked wonders for me, though I know others haven't had much luck with it.

Not writing on the computer helps me, too, but that's more to do with the fact that I'm easily distracted by shiny things, e-mail arriving, "quickly looking something up" on the internet, etc.

I've sort of done that egg timer thing, only in the form of me and an online friend giving each other ten to fifteen minutes to write something and then showing it to each other. We had a lot of fun with that.

I absolutely cannot write on the computer on account of distraction, too. So many fun and shiny things on the computer!

Yep, that's the same kind of principle, and yeah, loads of fun to do the flashfic kind of thing.

God, yes. I'll be right in the middle of a good scene, and then an e-mail comes in, and I go "Oooh, I'll just quickly check that," and the next thing I know, it's two hours later and I've not written a single word. Sigh.
