*gets tetchy with HFW tech support* Okay, when I'm complaining because my e-mails have been getting delayed by hours or even days, trying to get me to upgrade to a VPN or dedicated server account is not the answer. If I'm unhappy with the current service, why the fuck would I want to give you more money--which, by the way, I don't have?

(Yes, yes, the occasional delay for an hour or 2-3 is to be expected when one shares a server. But when it becomes the exception for an e-mail to actually arrive within 2-3 hours, and some are delayed for up to a week? (I still haven't received the e-mail [livejournal.com profile] wibbble mentioned sending me two weeks ago.) That means something is wrong, and I'd like that to be looked into, instead of being upselled and asked questions I answered in my original bloody problem ticket. Melle smash!)

[ETA] Hm, I give the helpdesk access to my e-mail, and suddenly e-mails start coming in. They're clearly delayed, too, but helpdesk pretends not to see a prolem, because they're there now. I'm a mite suspicious about this, and I'm still missing several e-mails altogether, but if this means I'll be getting my mail in a relatively timely fashion, now, I suppose I can live with it.[/ETA]

Huh. Email was definitely having problems in late December, and support was very helpful then. It does seem like I'm not getting things very quickly again, but I thought that was just Yahoo. (The only things I know I'm not getting are things from Yahoo Groups.) I think I'll go submit a support ticket myself.

(Does this mean you haven't been answering the question I emailed because you haven't actually gotten my emails?)

I think the last e-mail I have from you was from around Christmas? Ish, anyway.

They're being moderately helpful, now. I think I finally got through to them that I'm neither a whinging entitlement bitch, nor a technophobe with no clue what she's doing. Feh.

Oh, grrr. I emailed you on 1/4, 1/9, and 1/16 with the same question. (Are you going to come stay with me after Escapade? I need to know so I can put in my vacation request.) The last one before that was 12/30. The last email I received from you is dated 11/21, so if you sent anything after that, I didn't get it. We're even both HostForWeb customers! You'd think they could get email from me to you.

Seriously, that'd not even leave their servers! Argh.

Re: Escapade--I'm afraid I won't be able to go at all this year, due to financial reasons. I though I could stretch it, but then I had some unexpected expenses, and. Yeah.

I know it's late in the day and everything, but I kept thinking I could make it. :(

No kidding! Did you get a satisfactory answer from them? After having me send a test email to myself (which came right through), they told me, "Please have that mail re-sent." I can't have email re-sent if I don't know who might have tried to email me in the first place! Grr.

Awwww. :( I'll miss you. At least now you'll have time to save up money and vacation time so you can definitely visit me next year.

(Are you going to be around and on AIM this weekend? I have no idea what my daytime schedule looks like yet, but I'd love to chat if we can ever be around at the same time.)

Oooh, could this be why I didn't hear from you re: MM? I mean, after the period you were home for.

I also heard from quite a few of the MM participants that they submitted stories that never made it to the MM inbox. If your web service is being flaky, that would explain that.

Do you happen to be free tomorrow afternoon/evening? I have a desire to go see Brokeback Mountain. Shall we go see gay cowboy love and then have pizza? *hopeful grin*

I'm going to be cleaning a lot, this weekend, but I'd love a break with gay cowboys. :D Can we make it earlyish evening? Which theatre?

That reminds me that one of the things I want to do before going to London is finish fiddling with the rip settings and rip your S:AAB!

Cool! Does it work on the computer DVD player, BTW, with the double-sidedness?

Oh, it plays just fine - I'm just being a picky bastard regarding the rip quality. (The way I see it: if I'm going to be ripping from a DVD rather than downloading, I want the best quality I can get.) I need to check if some noise I'm seeing is on the original DVD or if it's a result of the encoder I'm using.

So at some point I have to watch the pilot again. Woe! ;o)

Once I do get it all set up, though, it might take me a while to rip it all. Since it takes a few hours to do the encoding on my wee iBook, I figure I can do a maximum of two a day (one while I'm at work, one while I'm sleeping)...

Oh, and I should ask: you said you were waiting copies of my ripped files for sharing with others? Would it be more useful to you if I just copied the DVDs (stripped of encryption and region-encoding)?

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Whoever keeps holding my comments hostage now needs to quit it, dammit. Argh. Anyway!

I think a copy of the DVDs might actually be handier than trying to transfer a season's worth of dvx files through the internet. Just let me know the costof the blank DVDs, cause I know those are more expensive than blank CDs. :)
