Meme! Yay!

Ask me my opinion on any character from any fandom, and I will give it to you. If I do not know the fandom, I will say what I think I know based on fannish osmosis.

omg. Someone make that kid a 'I got PNWED by my MOM!' shirt and get him a shrink.

Oh, the tears of laughter. Thank god for lunch hour.

I know, right? Poor kid. But really, how dumb was that?

I am absolutely cracking up and cannot stop, which is very bad because I'm in the Admirals Club and it's like six in the morning and people are trying to nap. OMG.

Meme: Lucius Malfoy.

Also, best Mom owning Kid moment evah.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Hm, good one. I've never given much thought to Lucius as a character, because I tend to just see him has "Draco's dad", so I'll blather on about Lucius-the-father for a bit.

I really dislike the fanon of the Malfoys as horrible, sexually and/or physically abusive parents. I can't see Lucius as an abusive dad. Mentally abusive, maybe, but not deliberately, I don't think. He strikes me as the kind of father who loves his son, and he's probably affectionate with the kid as well (or why would Draco be so desperate to save him, in HBP), but he also strikes me as the kind of father who knows what's best for his kid and just expects Draco to follow that plan. I think it quite possibly doesn't even occur to him that Draco might want something else, not seriously, anyway, and in a way that's damaging as well, but in the end, I do think he means well.

I'm not sure that he entirely believes in Voldemort, but I do think he believes hat Muggles are dangerous and Muggleborns should no be allowed to be part of the Wizarding world, because it's dangerous. So obviously, he's going to raise draco in that believe, and want for Draco to become someone big in the DE "movement", because power is good. </ramble>

Meme: Tom Riddle.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

You're welcome! The pretty must be shared!

Hm, I'm assuming you mean Tom Riddle as opposed to Voldemort, right? Hm. Never really gave much thought to him as such--my ponderings, rantings and ravings about the world of HP tend to focus on general social and societal issues, and also Harry's generation--but I'll give it a go.

He's ... He strikes me as a textbook case of a sociopath, and it kinda throws me out of the story sometimes. Especially in Book Six, where we finally actually get to see Tom-as-he-was-then (as opposed to Voldie, or Diary!Tom), I kept feeling like I was reading a psychiatry textbook, rather than a story about a character, and it stopped me from really "feeling" him. So I have little to no actual opinion on him as such, though I can ramble on for a while about him as a character in a book by JKR , and how/where she succeeds and fails to make him feel "real".

Er, sorry?
sandrine: (great expectations (Tom Riddle))

From: [personal profile] sandrine

Not at all! I find this extremely interesting. Because, you see, I love Tom as a character, particularly in HBP. I adore that sequence when he comes to Dumbledore (I don't have my copy with me, so I can't say where exactly it is) when he's already calling himself Voldemort. I thought that conversation was very telling. Interesting how we can perceive a character so differently.

Meme: Lee Jordan!

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

ME TOO OMG! COWBOYS!

Lee! Yay! Um, warning: Gushing follows.

I love Lee. He's sarcastic, he has a big mouth, and despite this, he continues to be allowed to commentate on Quidditch matches, even though McGonnagal has to always be there and keep himin line. (This has led to my theory that Lee is obviously v. good at Ttransfiguration and a bit of a teacher's pet, but that aside.) He's also obviously v. brave, because you have to be to be best friends with the Weasley twins--who else do you think they're going to test their inventions out on? Also, tarantula. I like a boy with a deadly spider. :D

Plus, from a writer's point of view, he's a great character to work with because we know just enough to make him insteresting (Sarcasm! He could totally be like fanon!Draco and it would be much more in character for him!) but not so much that stories keep getting bogged down with canon.

He's also a fabulous character to roleplay, because he has this "impartial observer" (only less with the impartial, because ahahaha!) thing that allows you to stay out of the major dramas while still participating in the RPG, and he's generally friendly with people, I think, so you can just hang out with whomever you like.

ALSO, I am absolutely in love with the concept of Lee in the HP War!Verse or the Post!War!Verse (at least, the versions thereof in my head), mostly because I prefer my war!verses to center on people other than the Trio and Draco, the people who are of little concequence to the war, the cannon fodder, one might say. But I won't bore you with my blathering about that concept. (Also, this does not need to be a Big HP Fic Challenge. No. Stoppit, self.)

From: [identity profile] babyofthegroup.livejournal.com

COWBOYS! ::love::

Also, if I were to coordinate the Cannon Fodder Challenge, you would totally join up. I know your inability to resist :D

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Oooh, Ganalf. I love Gandalf, especially when he's Gandalf the Gray and is both Very Very Smart And Wise and also a bit of a rebel--he's kinda the Middle Earth equivalent of a hippy university professor, I think. He's also very funny, and quotable, and I like that in a man. When he's just turned into Gandalf the White, he gets annoyingly preachy for a while, but then he becomes Gandalf the Gray, Mk II: Now With Even More Ass-Kicking Powers, and I love him even more.

So, um, yeah, more babbling than actual opinion, but there you go. :D

In honor of your Baby Cable icon, tell me what you think about him (not just baby him, though. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!)

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Right, keep in mind that my knowledge of Cable comes only from [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily and the Cable and DeadPool series, but ...

Cable = The One Cool Summers. He's pretty much robbed the entire Summers family of Cool for the next five generations. He's got all these super mental powers and goes and sacrifices himself for the good of the world, and manages to do so without coming off as a self-righteous prick, because he also clearly delights in pissing off people like S.H.I.E.L.D. and prodding The Powers That Be with sticks (er, metaphorically, anyway), and also, he looked/looks (damn time-travelling!) RILLY RILLY HOT when younger.

Oh, man, as a Cable fan since way back? You are so right about him. Not that Scott ever had that much cool to begin with but, yes, Cable is the only cool Summers left (I even thought Havok was sort of cool back in the day but now - NO!).

Note: The vast majority of my (limited) knowledge of comics canon comes from [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily, so keep that in mind ...

Ah, Bobby. I think I love him so much because he reminds me of myself, especially when it comes to social interactions. (Especially that whole "flirting with anything that moves" thing, and then the subsequent "Huh, what, people take me seriously when I flirt?" reaction.)

I think Bobby is adorable in that clueless way, and kinda juvenile, but that's understandable considering he's spent most of his life at the Mansion. I mean, he was what? Fifteen, sixteen, when he came to live at the Mansion? And he's been an X-Man ever since, and always the youngest one, and treated as such, from what I've seen. I don't think anyone's ever really expected him to grow up, so he's been quite comfortable always being the juvenile one, and never had any reason to "grow up".

Which kind of vaguely brings me to the other thing about Bobby, namely, the fact that totally think he's bi and ... well, not so much in denial, but in that it hasn't occured to him that he could be bi. I don't think the X-Men are necessarily a very queer-friendly environment to grow up in. Sure, it's easy to think that, as members of a prosecuted minority, they'd be more open-minded about it, but unfortunately, history has proven this not to be the case. And really, if you're already isolated from your peers, and seen as a freak and an abberation by most of the population, the last thing you're going to want to be is Even More Different. And I do think Bobby likes girls, and I don't think the concept of "bi" ever occured to him--he likes girl, therefore he doesn't like boys, QED. Um. If that made sense?

(Also, I vehemently Do Not Think that Bobby's reaction to finding out Jean-Paul was gay makes him homophobic, just dense, and probably rather heterocentric, but there is a difference.)

Also, I ramble. Hi. :D
