The top ones are fairly accurate, but further down the list it just gets silly, because I love R&B, but there weren't any good R&B bands on the ticky list. Then again, how accurate is any test that doesn't include, oh, I dunno, Dylan, or the Beatles, or indeed any artist pre-late-Sixties? I call foul! (Course, in order to accurately represent my musical tastes, the results would have to allow for a shared first place between "everything but House and Techno", so.)

that was generally my thoughts - there are lots of things missing off there, and there are lots of bands IN there that I don't consider representative of genre.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Oh, yeah. I mean, why is Salt-N-Peppa, a more or less one hit band, on there, but U2 isn't? Where's the representatives of the Sixties folk wave? Where are the Beatles, or the Stones, or the Who, or the Doors? For that matter, where are the representatives for Reggae, World Music, Britpop, Top40 Pop (*Nsync, Spice Girls, etc.)? I know some of my tastes can be a bit obscure, but there's a lot of significant genres completely missing, with others (rap, etc.) being incredibly overrepresented.

I suppose it's what they expect people that take the test to listen to, or possibly the 'meme' creator's bias...I dunno.
We should maybe create our own ;)

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Mixture of both, probably. The kind of things "kids today" would be listening to, as opposed to an actual cross-section of musical genres.

Hey, if you create it, I'll pimp it ... :D

They also listed a ton of rap artists in comparison to a lot of other genres. Hrm. :/

Huh. There were country artists on that list? (Yeah, my knowledge of country is relatively limited, but ...)

Also, belated happy birthday! I really wanted to write you something, but my muse is on holiday, it seems. :(

Er. Leann Rimes is pesudo-country, I think. I dunno. It was a really flawed list.

And thank you :) Don't worry about it; I still feel terrible for not having your beta back, like, a week ago. I should add that to my to-do list for today. ::nods emphatically::

Well, I do have a weird smutbunny, now, but um. Yes. Am so not writing that, am not.

And don't worry about the beta. :)

my icon loves you!

I don't even know! I like how classic rock was a "low influence" despite its being the only thing besides classical music that I listened to growing up. Um, skewed much?

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re: my icon loves you!

That's because there's only like two "classic rock" artists on there. I mean, where are the Beatles? The Stones? The Who? The Doors? I'm not even mentioning the absence of Metallica in the Heavy Metal genre, or the complete and utter underrepresentation of punk rock, or the complete absence of any classic country and folk artists, or--ARGH!

THIS is what's wrong with kids today, dammit. NO sense of their musical history!

Re: my icon loves you!

Damn hooligans! Why is 50 Cent even ON that list? WHAT HAS HE EVER DONE FOR ANYONE? The selection of artists is just bizarre.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re: my icon loves you!

Seriously, yo. On a longer list, maybe I could see him as representing current hiphop, but I think Eminem and Dr Dre are sufficient for that, because 50 cents is still pretty new.

And I don't think I even want to know what P fucking Diddy is supposed to be representing.

From: [identity profile] deepsix.livejournal.com

Re: my icon loves you!

Apparently P. Diddy is 90s hip hop. Which I guess I can understand? But there's already Dre and Notorious BIG *and* LL Cool J (who is actually "old school hip hop"? and yet Biggie isn't. uh, okay.)

Stupid quiz makers.
