So, Birthday loot:

  • Urban Decay make-up, including "lip ink", which is fabulous for people like me who usually have to reapply lipstick every five seconds, a LotR calendar, and a "LotR companion" mini-book, from my coworkers;
  • Sid Vicious action figure (!!!!!) and Spongebob Squarepants lip gloss from [livejournal.com profile] amatia;
  • Books from [livejournal.com profile] rsadelle;
  • Veggie cook books, a fab "hand"bag (a lot larger than it looks, which is awesome) and a full collection of Euro coins from my parents.

Also, one of my coworkers bought mini Christmas presents for us all, and mine was a small set of Tarot cards. Cool! I've not done Tarot in years, and I've never worked with the minor Arcane, but I've nicked my books back from my parents, and I'm so starting again.

In other news, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit:

Harry Potter

One True Pairing 'Ship: Harry/Draco are really one of the few pairings that truly speak to my OTP side. They are, in a lot of ways, the embodiment of everything I look for in my pairing of choice. Make of that what you will.
Canon 'Ship: Does Ron/Hermione count?
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" 'Ship: (All together now ...) Harry/Hermione! Sperm of the Devil!
"You are one sick bastard" 'Ship: Harry/Firenze. Hi, [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit!
"I dabble a little" 'Ship: Hm. Right now, Draco/Hermione. Interesting pairing to write because it's similar yet very different from Harry/Draco.
"It's like a car crash" 'Ship: Marcus/Lee, in a way, I suppose. In that I know it makes no sense to anyone but me, but I can't stop returning to it. And making others write it for me.
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'Ship: Ginny/Tonks.
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'Ship: Marcus/Lee as well.
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'Ship: Draco/Harry, the way the vast majority of the fandom writes it.
"When all is said and done" 'Ship: Ron/Hermione. Also, Draco/Harry.

Lord of the Rings

One True Pairing 'Ship: Legolas/Gimli. The once and future pairing, man.
Canon 'Ship: ... Legolas/Gimli? And actually, Sam/Rosie. I also used to be, Before Slash, an Aragorn/&Eowyn; "shipper".
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" 'Ship: I don't know if I have any for this fandom. Possibly Boromir/Legolas.
"You are one sick bastard" 'Ship: Faramir/Pippin. Also, Merry/Éowyn.
"I dabble a little" 'Ship: Merry/Pippin. Love it in the source, but haven't really read a lot of it.
"It's like a car crash" 'Ship: Heh. If I'm honest, Gríma/Éowyn.
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'Ship:
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'Ship: Gríma/Éowyn Éowyn/Faramir and Arwen/Aragorn never made sense to me in the books, but if we're talking non-canon pairings, Aragorn/Legolas.
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'Ship: Aragorn/Legolas, as well. Actually, I kind of see it too, in the movies, but it just doesn't seem to click in my head. I can't see them like that.
"When all is said and done" 'Ship: Legolas/Gimli.

Rare/Other Fandoms

One True Pairing 'Ship: I don't really gte very OTP-y outside of HP and LotR, but I guess Timbertrick comes the closest.
Canon 'Ship: None, really. OUtside of HP and LotR, I also don't really go for canon 'ships.
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" 'Ship: Buffy/Angel. And yes, I'm quite aware of the fact that they are canon. I still want to stab my eyes out with a spork.
"You are one sick bastard" 'Ship: Buffy/Angel. Also, Buffy/Spike. And Cooper/McQueen.
"I dabble a little" 'Ship: Ahahaha! Have you got a few hours? :D
"It's like a car crash" 'Ship: Spike/Xander. So much with the horrid, and yet I keep returning to it whenever I have a particularily bad day.
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'Ship: Almost all of the lotrips pairings.
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'Ship: Justin/Nick. Heh.
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'Ship:Mulder/Krycek. I don't appear to have any X-Files love, oddly. Actually, to some extent, this goes for almost all mainstream fandoms.
"When all is said and done" 'Ship: Coop/Nathan. Old OTPs don't die, man.

And people should go and fill out this poll (Christmas presents drabbles!) if they've not done so already.

I text messaged that to Sky yesterday after reading the Firenze divination scene in OotP again.

From: [identity profile] meacoustic.livejournal.com

However, whenver I try to think of the logistics of actual Harry/Firenze... my brain refuses to tell me how they'd have sex.

Hmm, apparently I have no centaur squick. Theoretically, that is.

From: [identity profile] wimmeke.livejournal.com

Yeah, I took that poll allright. But those were only suggestions. If you think it's too bad for wording... Please make something up yourself. Ya know, teach me something new instead of something I could probably pull of myself even from an outsiders point of view.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Hey, no probs, I've had worse requests. :D And I'll get backto you re: movie, but I can't guarantee phone call, as I am somewhat phonephobic.

From: [identity profile] wimmeke.livejournal.com

No problem, you can keep it as short as "Read your mail", or "Get on Yahoo" (I just added ya, seen you hop in for a second or two just seconds ago too)

I'll try to do an effort not to slack too much.

From: [identity profile] rane-ab.livejournal.com

Gríma/Eowyn! Yessss! In the movie, anyway. Dear God, the way Gríma looks at his hand after she walks away! Ugh.

Also, have you actually read any good Merry/Pippin? Most of the stuff I run across seems to be the sickly sweet kind.

And Harry/Firenze... *snicker* I can see that, somehow. :D

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

And the way she almost gives in, oh! Have you heard Miranda Otto talk about Gríma/Éowyn on the extended DVD? She felt sorry for Gríma! Miranda Otto sees the Evil Het OTP!

Yeah, no, I don't really read much LotR slash in general, is the weird thing.

Don't you start, too!

From: [identity profile] rane-ab.livejournal.com

Yeah, it's a really nicely tense scene between the two actors, but I must admit, it's the hand that did me in. :-)

And no, I didn't -- we don't have a DVD player, so I can't watch the EE's. :-( But hee, it's nice to know that kind of thing! :-) I felt sorry for Gríma, too. Poor guy.

Miranda Otto sees the Evil Het OTP!

Yes, another one to join our ranks! :-)

Yeah, no, I don't really read much LotR slash in general, is the weird thing.
I gathered as much, but you never know, you could have just run across a good story. *g* Any particular reason you don't read much LotR slash?

Don't you start, too!

Oh yes, oh yes. If I can see the rightness of Dumbledore/giant squid BDSM, surely you can see the rightness of Harry/Firenze? Makes much more sense than H/Hr.

Any particular reason you don't read much LotR slash?

I don't tend to "read around" a lot anymore these days, because of my pickiness, and I don't get a lot of LotR recs from people. Also, hobbitslash almost seems redunant to me.
