On HP fic: You know what I'd like to see explored more in HP fic? The WW2 parallels. Specifically, post-war. And not just Draco and other former Death Eathers/children of Death Eaters/Slytherins being shunned, which does happen in a lot of post-war HP fic, but the rest, The subtleties. The backlash against collaborators, proven or alledged, shaving the heads of girls who were dubbed (again, proven or alledged) "nazi whores", the scars of betrayal and hatred and paranoia that take several generations to heal.

Or maybe I'm alone in that because I've read so many books and stories and articles about the aftereffects of the collaboration sa a pre-teen.

On slash, then and now: I seem to remember a lot more first time stories focussing on "OMG does this mean I'm GAY?" during my first few years in slash fandom than I see now. It may be that they're still around as much as they used to be, just not in the stories I read these days, or in the fandoms I'm in, though.

And on the one hand, I think that's a good thing, because as someone once said in on a rant page, "If Mulder is fucking Kryceck, then his first concern is going to be not so much that he's fucking a guy and does that make him gay, but that he's fucking the guy who killed his father."

On the other hand, I never read much M/K, but I do read Harry/Draco, and in that case, I think the "Am I gay?" issue should come into play, because we're talking about teenagers, here. I don't necessarily want it to become the focus of the story, but I'm a wee bit tired of all the stories in which it apparently isn't an issue at all.

(She says, never having written this issue into her stories herself. But then, I feel as if I don't have enough "feeling" for the issue, having had nothing but positive experiences when coming out. Come to think of it, perhaps that's why the majority of HP (slash) fandom doesn't address this issue either. Hrm.)

On pairings: Okay, seriously, why is there not more Ron/Harry? No, really. I'm not a best-friends slasher in general, as you'll probably know, but I like some nice Ron/Harry every now and then, and more importantly, I want to know why there are so many people writing fluffy!H/D that is completely OOC when if they want fluff, they could be writing R/H, where their stories would still not be exactly IC, but at least less glaringly OOC than in H/D.

ETA: On Draco and redemption: I amnot a Draco Redemptionista. I don't want Draco to be redeemed. I don't expect Draco to be redeemed. Because I don't think Draco has done anything to be redeemed for. I think he's an annoying little twerp who's spent his whole life echoing Daddy's opinions and ideals and dreams, but he isn't evil. I still think, looking at HP as its own universe, that nothing is yet decided re: Draco, that he could still go either way. Keeping in mind that HP is a series of books, and we only have two of them left for Draco to become more than Lucius, Jr, my hope that he will become more than that (on either "side", Harry's or Voldemort) is dwindling, but still.

Dude, every time I read that scene in GoF, it makes me a Ron/Harry 'shipper for a few moments. And you know, when I want fluff, which I sometimes do, I go looking for Ron/Hermione or Ron/Harry. I don't go looking for Harry/Draco fluff, because whoooboy, nothing worsens a bad, "I need fluff!" mood more than fluffy H/D.

And *pokes* you write about the WW thing! :D
