Somebody stop me before I once again run my head into the brick wall that is the RPS debate?

I just find it funny that in a fandom where people write everything from incest to BDSM, to chanslash to bestiality to sex with inanimate objects, to Nazis to rape to treesex, someone who actively participates in said fandom can condemn anyone else for doing the same.

People write stories about fourteen year olds having sex with their teachers, or each other. What bloody difference does it make if the distinction between 'real' and 'fictional' is made?

And since when does a bunch of women (because, really, for the most part anyway) writing about this stuff indicate anything about gay men being perverts? Where the fuck does that come in?

Don't forget the owl-sex (she said helpfully <g>)

According to one of the commenters, because it's fairly obvious that people will be squicked more easily by RPF than by FPF. (His/her words, not mine.)

To which I say: bollocks. I've actually talked about slash and fandom with a whole bunch of "mundanes" (non-fen), and not a single one of them made the distinction between FPF and RPF. The whole fandom hierarchy only exists within fandom, and disappears once you step outside it for a moment. To the outside world, we're all sick perverts/geeks who need to get a life.

Sorry, I'm rambling and preaching to the choir, here, but that's what annoys me most about the whole RPF debate. I want to hack into the major slash servers and display a banner on all the pages with the words "YOU WRITE GAY PORN, I WRITE GAY PORN? WE ALL WRITE GAY PORN. GET OVER YOURSELVES."

(Do you have a name, btw, oh anonymous commenter? *pokes the ether*)
