I just realised that ... I think about half my friends page, probably more, is younger than I am. There was a time when I didn't know any slashers younger than I.

This random realisation brought to you by Caffeine, Inc and the letters B-O-R-E-D.

Yes, you'd be one of the exceptions. And I'm very grateful for that, because I don't think I could handle being the ancient one. ;p

I'm only nine months younger, you ho, so don't start.

But yeah, I'm starting to get that "crusty old lady" feeling myself, especially on realising that, when I started in fandom, a lot of the current crop were still in elementary school and didn't know what the Internet was. Um, eek.

Re:

Oh, I KNOOOW! There's people on my friends list who are younger now than I was when I started in fandom. There's a peculiar feeling of "Oh my god, I'm a pervert, why am I talking to these children about this?" when people suddenly annouce they're turning fifteen ...

Not to mention the weird feeling of finding out that someone you'd always thought was older than you turns out to be three years younger. Meep.

You're still the baby to me, babe. ;D

I think it's cool as long as they stay smrt, but yeah, I have to admit it is weird feeling like the old lady at eighteen, man. (Of course some of that's because I've been in fandom for six years--oh *god* what happened to my life?)

Re:

... Okay, you win. I'm the same age as you, fandom-wise, but four years older. But yes, part of it is the relative fandom age. I mean, sometimes it's incredibly weird to think of the fact that my first list is three and a half years old now, that I was in HP fandom way back in the beginning of the HPslash list, before the big H/D wave, that I remember when RPS really was the big taboo, ...

I need a cane.

woooo! I win! *laughs*Man, I can think of all this stuff I remember, WAY BACK WHEN, and it makes me feel cool and wise until I remember it's because I'm a great big dork.

*creak* Remember back before Te started posting stories? Well I DO! *creak*

At 24, I feel older most of the time. But the first fandom I was in (when I rejoined the fandom world) was West Wing. And every single person I talked to in the fandom was older. In fact, the person in the fandom I was closed to was nearly 40. So it always shocks me when I discover that there are people in the fandom who are, oh, 16-18.

I'm so used to being the baby of the (whatever one) fandom. But, that's the 'net for you.

Re:

God, I know. I mean, to me, 16-18 is average age, mostly cause that's how old I was when I got into this whole thing. but 13-15 is. Eeek? Not bad mind you, because I certainly don't censor myself around "children", but still kind of baffling.

I thought about it. Because there's someone on my friends list who friends-filter-locks all of her posts that have to do with slash, etc, because the people are "under age" ... I don't want to bother. I mean, it's not worth it to me. Plus, the "underagers" on my list are into slash anyway.

But, I have to admit that when I was 13-15, I had no idea what slash was. In fact, I didn't really know until 2000. Not that I hadn't read it before. Because, I read a lot of cyberpunk science fiction and if it's sex, it's been done in one of those books.

But. I guess that's thanks to the 'net. Slash: get 'em while they're young. Or something.

Re:

Yeah, see, I was reading de Sade at age 14, and the smutty bits of Stephen King novels before that, so I don't think slash talk is necessarily bad for young people to be exposed to, y'know?

Re:

I do know. I think that people *should* be exposed to smut!fic. Slash and het. Because, while sex isn't all that like fiction, it certainly can help young readers become comfortable with sexuality.

Re:

Maybe then we'd be spared all the hidious Mary Sue stories depecting some poor girl's idea of "good sex".

Hah! What, you don't want people to think that sex is well, Mary Sue? *shudder*

Yo Melle, quit whining.

Thirty-two, babe. Thirty-fucking-two. And I'm relatively new to slash fandom, although I've been reading gay erotic/porn for years, and wrote slash long before I saw anyone else's.

And as for the Marquis de Sade, first read him in 6th grade, I was about 12. I found the damn book in my jr. high library(it was a collection of horror stories, and had a excerpt of "Justine" in it). So it's my jr. high's fault I'm a pervert, hee.

*pout* Does this mean I'm not allowed to have 10,000 of your babies? I'm legal!

::Snickers:: And I wonder if theres even any people who aren't on there who are making you feel a tad old. ::Attempts to look innocent, fails miserably::

Seriously tho Melle, don't worry. You're not offically Old until you're 40.

Awww, c'mon. At least admit that your inbox would be a bit more boring if there wasn't constantly some sort of LJ-email notification saying that I'm commenting again and annoying the living fuck outta ya. :)

I'm not saying I'd not feel more bored. I'm just saying I'd also feel less old. :p
