So I bought bleach and black hair dye, and my plan is this:

  1. Bleach my bangs (which are now once again rather short, back to just over my eyebrows), because there's still pink from the last time I dyed them pruple on them, and my roots are showing horribly and the purple won't take on tmy natural hair colour.
  2. Dye everything black.
  3. Use the streaking cap to re-cleach and then dye purple some streaks.
Does that sound workable to people who have experience with this sort of thing?

...From what I know of black hair dye... uh, you'd be killing your hair to lighten it. o.O but I don't know from experience, so...

Gah. Yeah, I know, but I don't really know how else to do this. :/ Besides, my hair's really short, and it grows fast, and I do spend a fortune on expensive shampoos and conditioners to keep it from being too damaged, so. :/

You've probably done it already at this point, but I would definitely dye it black first, then bleach it in that case. You might have to bleach twice to get the black out where you want to streak it...

Post about how it goes? ^^

Re:

Even twice didn't get the black out. Oh well. ^_^

I would leave out the bleach before dyeing it black and just bleach it after, personally. I did that and it worked okay. What brands of dye will you be using? I used black Feria and burgundy Special Effects - I don't know if they have Special Effects in Belgium, but I know they have Feria, and it's especially easy to bleach out, I find. I've been using it exclusively for about a year, and when I did my hair I used 40-vol bleach and only had to leave it on for 50 minutes. Whereas last time I tried to bleach my hair after having dyed it black (with super-cheap Nice 'n' Easy) for a year, I had to do it twice, leaving the bleach on for an hour and a half each time, before it achieved the same tint. And, of course, by that point my hair was completely fried. Feria does fade faster than a lot of dyes, but with black it shows less.

If they do have Special Effects there, get it - my mom dyed her hair turquoise with it earlier this year, and it was bright for a month and a half with no bleaching at all, on natural medium-brown hair. Granted, she's greying, but still...

They don't have SE over here, I don't think. I use Shwarkopf Special Effects decoloriser for the bleaching, since that's "my brand", and I know it works, and it comes in one of these handy-dandy bottles as opposed to the bleach one buys in punk stores, which you have to mix in a bowl or whatever.

The thing about dye-then-bleach is, I don't know how long it'll take for the black to wash out, and how crappy it'll look, and maybe I'll have to dye the purple over everything oce it starts looking crappy, and then I do have to have my roots bleached. Plus, it'll ensure a more equal shade, overall.

Then again, it is black, and it won't wash out as fast on my natual colour as it would on white.

Hm. Must consider.
