So.

Anyone in Europe care to come over to watch Chamber of Secrets with me (and possibly Sae)? It comes out over here on the twentieth, and yes, that's original (subtitled) version. I have room to sleep a whol lot of people, so if you can just get here, we're set.

I want to watch this movie with slashers, dammit!

Please?

Re:

Damn. We could do it the weekend after the 20th, if that draws more people in.

Re:

Well, yeah, I'd like to come over, if I could stay for the weekend. Can you resist not seeing it for two or three days, though? Or would you be ok watching it a second time then? And would you want others to be watching for a first time - because it comes out on 15th then, and I've already got plans to see it then with Bryn (or earlier, if we get a preview showing, as we did with the last film.)

Re:

I'll be waiting for the weekend, if we do get some people together (if only because I'll be in the middle of NaNoWriMo then), but as long as you don't spoil me, and you're okay seeing it twice, I don't care if you want to see it before that. :) Weekend would be extra cool because then we can go for a fairly early showing on Saturday, go for drinks (and general squeeing), and maybe hit the Aalmoezenier in the evening, even!

Re:

I admire your dedication to NaNoWriMo. You won't be spoilt (I'll probably write about it in LJ, as I did last year, but put it behind a cut tag). Sounds good to me! If everything works out (must check cash flow, other plans, etc), I'll probably arrive late on Friday evening, Eurostar permitting. (Will consult AnnaTheGoth, who works for it.) How late do trains from Brussels to Antwerpen run?

Re:

Lates one leaves Brussels South (Midi) at 23:46 and arrives in Antwerp at 00:33 :)

Timetables, in case you want to check: http://193.121.180.17/default.asp?langue=3 :)

And wooo! Yeah, I already know the plot and all, but I want to be taken by surprise by the slashiness. ^_^

Re:

Good good. My last lecture on Friday ends at 6, so I can be at Ashford International for 7, get a a Eurostar at 8-ish (I hope), then arrive in Brussels at 11ish (your time). I assume staying up that late won't be a problem for you, and you're not exactly far from the station.

Ta Kenneth.

Well, yes. I probably won't be able to refrain from squeeing in LJ, especially when all the Americans will be doing just that (and I've got Bryn to start commenting on slashy bits of films! Excellent!) but you can attempt to hide from it for a week.

No problem at all -- I'm even thinking of making it a long weekend, so I can write a bit on Friday, make sure I'm rested enough for anyone arriving on the Friday evening, and catch up on sleep on the Monday. :)

and I've got Bryn to start commenting on slashy bits of films! Excellent!

Wooo! I'm trying to corrupt the brother, but it's not as easy as it looks.

Re:

Having a long weekend is probably a good plan, because weekends are supposed to be relaxing, so busy ones are very draining. How many days off do you have left for this year?

Your youngest brother, I take it? Well, yes; cool and open-minded as he is, teaching him to share his sister's appreciation of gay men could be difficult. With Bryn, though, I just go, "Ooh! Slashy!" and eventually, he started humouring / helping me, by going, "Look! Slashy!"

Re:

Fifteen days, so even if I take a long weekend for CoS and one to go to Paris end of October, I'll have a whole lot left. :)

I think the problem is less with the gay porn and more with the fanfic, to be honest.

Re:

Yeah, when I was working, towards the end, I suddenly realised, "Eep! I've got about 7 days off left!" (Since I tended to only take days off when necessary.) But I couldn't take them all off them at the end of my work there, or they'd have thought I'd quit early and wouldn't pay me. Gah.

What's his problem with fanfic?

Re:

Yeah, I took exactly one day of vacation back in January, for going to Wisconsin (the rest were all days left from 2001), and the next time I took a day off was that week in August. Suffice to say, I've got a bunch of stuff planned for the autumn (weekend in Paris, CoS weekend, and then the rest prolly around the holidays, and to carry over into 2003).

Not really a rpbolem, just that there's a certain mindset you need for reading/enjoying fanfic, which he doesn't have yet, I don't think. Hm.

Re:

Whatcha doing in Paris?

Yeah; is he familiar with the media the fanfic in question is based on? Although I know that doesn't necessarily make for enyojable reading: for example, I'm a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails, but all the NIN fanfic I've found totally sucks, so the style of the stories probably plays a part. Also, the way I got into fanfic in the first place was by finding some of Twi's original stories at The Young Writers Club, going "Ooh", checking out her website, reading the rest of her stuff, which just so happened to be fanfiction, although I didn't know anything about "The Vampire Chronicles" (on which it was based), going "Ooh, vampires. Ooh, gay vampires" and then investigating the rest of the fandom from there. So it's maybe just a question of finding a story that appeals, as I'd never been interested in fanfic before then.

Re:

Just random tourism, really. I love Paris, and I've not been there since the summer after I graduated, so it's been more than four years.

And yeah, good point. one of the problems, I think, is that he's not really a big media fan, and if one isn't familiar with media fanfic, RPF is rather odd, I think. Although he does like Harry Potter, so maybe I should find him some good HP gen. Hm. A plan! Wooo!

Re:

Oh, I see, good plan. Yeah, I've only been there for a day, and it was very nice (I felt much more contented / relaxed there than I have done in most cities) but I didn't get to see much beyond the Louvre, Seine and Eiffel Tower.

Yay!
