Nodnol countdown: 2 days

Yeah, the knee? Not really better yet. >_<

Everybody needs to go read Everyone Knows Everyone right now! Because holy shite! Nelly/Justin. Hothothot and dude, did I ever mention my kink for interracial pairings? Because the contrast and the hot and the -

I'm just dead now. Wow. What a way to start the day!

Quote o' the Day:

For the love of several holy deities on a unicycle, why must people be so stupid.
([livejournal.com profile] digigoth; LJ comment)

Melle: Ahahahahaha!
ChrisPuppet: ?
Melle: It's the mental image! The mental image!
Koda: Hey! That's my line, bitch!

Seriously, though, can someone explain to me why lotrips fandom is littered with idiots? For the love of fuck, people, use your goddamn brains for once! Allow me to point some things out to you lot (or rather, them lot, since none of them read my LJ that I know of; though if anyone wants to pass this on, do feel free):

  1. None of us are cooler than each other. Lotrippers are not cooler, better or smarter than people in any other RPS or FPS fandom. We write slash. We are all dorks. The fact that the FellowShip guys act snuggly and cuddly and whatever in public does not make it more okay to slash them. The fact that some of us slash boybands and you slash actors does not make our stories worse than yours. I repeat: we're all dorks. Get over it, embrace your dorkiness, and internalise the concept of solidarity amongst slashers.
  2. Don't act like a stalker. No, you should not be ashamed for writing RPS. No, you should not hide your stories behind passwords or secret URLS. But to go shove your stories into the subjects' faces is exactly the kind of stalkerish behaviour opponents of RPS have been accusing us all of for the two years I've been into RPS, and apart from the possible baclash this could cause to RPS, it's just plain rude towards the actors in question.
  3. Don't make assumptions. No matter how slashy the guys may act, the only one of whom we know he's gay is Sir Ian. Whatever you may think, unless they actually come out explicitaly, you cannot claim "Look at how they act! They must be fucking!" and mean it. The same goes for "Look at how they act! They must know of slash, and they're encouraging it!" Just, no. You don't know these people. Don't make assumtions.
You'd think these things spoke for themselves, but obviously, they don't, not in this fandom. And that, lads and lasses, is why I left it before I was actually into it. I've had enough heartache. However, I reiterate, if anyone wants to pass this on, do feel free. Fucking lying idiotic bints!

Wrote a scene of Pride yesterday, and badgered Beth into giving me advice on which POV to write the second to last scene from. Cue scary music.

to steal a paraphrased quote off way too many people,
"the three most common elements in the universe are hydrogen, exploded TIE fighters, and stupidity"

Yeah, my first reaction was "You stupid bitch!" But then I realized that people are stupid and sometimes need other people to take a hold of their hands, sit them down, and explain some thing to them.

Unfortunately, no one was there for this woman. Common sense tells me not to divulge slash and RPS because no one really knows what could happen if an actor or celebrity didn't like it. For all our speculation it's never happened before, thankfully, outside of sites getting shut down and lists freaking out and closing down. Hopefully that won't happen to this list--I enjoy some of the stories.

I don't know how this is going to turn out, but I wish people would stop bitching at the poor girl. They've turned her positive experience meeting one of the stars into something negative, and that experience [which many of us would dream about] is being nullified. Just shut the fuck up, all ready you stupid assholes [the people on the list], and just let the celebrities involved dish out consequences, if there are to be any at all. Live and let live is a nice philosophy I think many people online could benefit from exploring.

Yeah, well, you know what? She's a grown woman, presumably, and she did something that could, at worst, single-handedly take down a fandom. At best she presented a really, REALLY bad first impression of fans. I think we're fairly justified in being pissed at her.

From: [identity profile] paranoidschizo.livejournal.com

Re:

Feel free to be pissed, but for the love of God you don't have to beat her to death with what she did. You have every right to feel angry and upset.

But truthfully, beating her to death and
turning against her isn't going to do anything to help the situation.

It's just cluttering up my inbox.

What she did was very ignorant and should have been in better taste, but so is what you are doing.

Re:

The thing is that from what I've heard, people were praising her for it. I think it's a good thing to make it abso-bloody-lutely clear that this kind of behaviour is not accepted/encouraged by fandom at large, so that people won't be tempted to actually do it (or do it too, if what she's saying is true) just for the praise or whatever.

And I don't see what she did as "having fun meeting a celebrity". As Twi said in response to the entry after this one, she went up to two people who were trying to have a quite dinner, and harassed them. Not only into giving her an autograph, but also into going to her site. RPS ramifications aside, that's just rude and stalkerish.

Re:

Also, I'm not on any lotrips list anymore but one, so I'm not the one cluttering up your inbox. :)

Un-fucking-believable. This is just going to give credence to all those anti-RPSers who bitch that TPTB will find us and shut us down because we write RPS. Thanks a lot, idiots.

I may be the last person in the free world who hasn't seen LOTR and couldn't pick most of the actors out of a lineup, so this is the first I've heard of this. And I'm utterly appalled at this person's behavior (but possibly more appalled at the people who praised her for it) But I had to comment on this...

I repeat: we're all dorks. Get over it, embrace your dorkiness, and internalise the concept of solidarity amongst slashers.

Yes, that's it! I want that on a t-shirt for the next slash con I go to. This applies to a whole lot of situations across fandoms. I don't care if someone wants to read/write about hobbits or cowboys or flying monkeys, so why should they care if I want to read about sparkly danceboys (and their hot new rapper boyfriends ;-)?

Re:

It's something we've been saying throughout the RPS "wars" and the boybands discussion and whatever. We're all slashers, we're all fanfic writers. The outside world doesn't make the distinction between RPS and FPS or whatever. To them, we're all dorks.

Dorks of the world, unite! Throw off your chains and become one with the Glorious Revolution!

(Sorry. Having a Che Guevara moment, here.)

heh. That would probably be directed at me, posting a probably-excessive two messages (although, in reply to two different points) early this morning. But, yeah, I'm done now, on-list at least. I have had quite enough bombast for a while.

I'm the quiet type, I swear.

Yes! Such good tips. Everyone should just listen to you. It's my new mantra - "just listen to Melle".

And. The interracial pairings kink? Oh my yes. Nelly/Justin is so hot. Mmmm....

Heee! ^___^ Yes! everyone should listen to meeeeeeee!

Ahem. *gets grip on ego*

And yes, because. Mpfg. Sohot. This is also why I like Eminem/Dr Dre.

No, it's going to give evidence to the anti-RPSers who say that RPS writers are stalkers.
