WHY did I not think to double-chgeck that y-s does, in fact, admit adult content? Cause it doesn't. (Which, btw, means I should be moving my own site as well. Fuckers.) Folks, please remove all adult content for the time being? I'll be emailing Amy about LE (could offer to host at my own site, except that's also at y-s.) I swear, I'll have this solved as soon as possible.

FUCK! I am INSANE!

Shit. *looks through site* Don't think there is anything that qualifies as 'adult'. *breathes sigh of relief*

Did they actually tell you that now or is it just a precautionary measure?

Re:

They told me. I am panicking. I'm bringing down my own site right now as well. Well, all the adult content.

Shh! Don't panick! *hugs* It'll all work out, you'll see. :)

Ugh ... what exactly qualifies 'adult content' anyway?

Re:

*hug* Thanks. It's working out. Free hosting for IS, and cheap good non-TOSsable hosting for femgeeks. We're actually cheaper off than we were at y-s. Now there's just the hassle of cancelling the y-s webspace and transferring the DNS. Which is annoying, but livveable.

I dunno. I'm guessing all the slash archives? Bitches.

Wow. This'll take a while. Considering that it's like. The whole RSA. *laughs* Eh, I wasn't doing anything anyway.

Re:

*whimper* I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm an IDIOT. And I'll solve this SOON! Like, a week or so soon.

From: [identity profile] armistice.livejournal.com

Don't worry about it. No rush for me. I won't be here, remember! And I was serious; I'm not actually doing anything. *pets* Besides, this'll be a good excuse as to why I haven't updated lately. Heh.

All my love goes out to you... *hugs you* I'm so sorry... I wish I could help.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

THanks. Where are you hosted, btw? Would they be suitable for femgeeks, you think?

From: [identity profile] silversolitaire.livejournal.com

Yup, I am. And it's a fine service. But their bandwidth is only 2 GB (for my plan, anyway) and they're kinda bitchy about RPS. *sighs* Plus, they freaked SO much when there were these rumors about WB going after HP slash sites. This pissed me off big time.

*hugs*

A couple of options

Depending on size, Mekle and I could host it here at insanity-inc, or you could try Eskimo, where the Inn is hosted. They have a separate server for adult sites (only to control the amount of traffic) They're also quite cheap.

Re: A couple of options

Thank you.

My main concern right now is the tolkienslash archiven which is about 15 MB. Main problem there is bandwidth --about 4-5 GB/month. Amy's already talking to people for hosting, though.

Hm, eskimo still seems more expensive than my other option, especially since femgeeks is 100+MB large.

Thank you SO much for the offer, though.

Hi there. Here's a couple of slash-friendly hosts to try, if you're still looking for ideas.

http://www.ravenswing.com/ (RavenD's place)
http://www.sockiipress.org/ (The m_a archive's home - I don't know if you can host here, but they've certainly got lots of space and bandwidth if they can handle that huge archive and its significant traffic load. It might be worth an inquiry.)
http://www.squidge.org/

I don't know how any of the admins at these servers feel about RPS, so that's something you'd have to check. I can't speak to quality-of-service; I don't host anything at any of these servers, but I do know they're slash-friendly.

Re:

Hey

Thanks for the reccs. Squidge doesn't accept RPS or underage slash, so they're not suitable, and I've not checked the other, but we've a host now, so yay!

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I thought they explicitly allowed adult content and that's why you chose to use them. Wasn't that true at some point? Or am I misremembering? (What I seem to recall is you saying something about how someone turning you in to your domain wouldn't matter because your site host explicitly allowed adult content.)

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

I thought so at the time, because their TOS is somewhat ambiguis about it. (Stating it's bad because of resource issues, which I figured wouldn't be a problem with HTML sites.)

I'm sorry, yo, I know I fed you wrong info. >_<

I promise, I'll talk to André as soon as he gets on and see about IS and femgeeks hosting where libreâme is.

another Web host suggestion

You might also check http://web66.com/ I don't know for positive if they're ok with adult content, but a friend of mine who does some adult content sites has his site hosted here.
Thanks for the heads-up, and sorry for the trouble!

Anything I should be concerned about list-wise?

Not that the lists aren't as quiet as the proverbial tomb *sigh*, but if I need to gack the subbed people's names or anything, LMK, because after Yahoo, I'm paranoid about my lists accidentally disappearing...especially if they're not supposed to.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re: Anything I should be concerned about list-wise?

Shit, I knew I'd forgotten to ask about something. I don't know if our new host has list possibilities. Gack the emails to be on the safe side; I'll ask as soon as possible. Sorry!

I don't know if other people have offered (I'm sure they have) but I have quite a bit of space and bandwidth that I would be willing to offer to myou for hosting purposes. :) Just let me know.

Re:

Everything's in the clear now, but thanks. Free hosting for me, cheap for femgeeks. Yay geek connections! ^_^
