Subject: Rewritten story Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2002 08:33:54 -0000 From: <addy deleted> (Jo, you want me to give you her addy so you can contact her yourself?) To: minerva@femgeeks.net Hi Melle (hope I can still call you that), I'm sorry that you felt so offended by my posting of the rewritten story. That was definitely not my intention. Neither to you, nor to Cassandra. :( I've seen it more as some sort of praise of her work, because I really liked her story. I'm also a writer (right now I'm busy to translate one of my longer stories into English), but slash fiction is a new topic to me, so I thought this "rewriting" might be a first step to get into this way of writing and to do an original one day. I definitely know that stories are something very personal and somehow private, and I absolutely didn't want to take that away from Cassandra. I don't think that *I* would feel offended as an author if anybody rewrote my story and gave me credits (as long as it would be only used on a list like this one). I'd only feel offended if someone really "stole" my story or my ideas and claimed that they were from him- or herself. But of course everybody might feel about that differently. Anyway I've asked the moderator to delete it from the archive because I don't think that I'll be able to contact Cassandra with my bloody old e-mail account (as I wrote to the list I've already tried it *before* posting the story). And I don't want to offend any future members of this list. By the way, I still love *your* stories. And don't worry, I see no need to rewrite one of *them* because I think they are perfect as they are. ;) There's no offence intended in this, I really love your stories. You're one of the authers who actually got me into this and made me think of doing an original myself one day, too. All the best Chris

I've been reading your comments about this whole thing and (not that you need validation from a complete stranger or anything) you are completely right. Plagiarism is wrong--and this is definitely plagiarism--just plain and simple wrong and this girl's apparent inability to understand this marks her as an idiot.
Unless, of course, she really does know what she's done wrong and is simply playing dumb in which case she's nasty.
Anyway, I really wanted to comment just because the things you've had to say have really struck a chord with me because I've had some of my written work stolen from me online and it's made me angry enough to stop putting it out there...so I appreciate seeing someone stick so strongly to her principles.
