I'm randomly feeling like crying. DVD drive still doesn't work, the trafficmagnet thing, and I feel (egotistical, I know) like the Lotrips fandom is overrun by teenies who are ruining evrything RPS has gained over the last two years. How am I ever gonna honestly argue that RPSers can distinguish between reality and fantasy when there's people seeing those tongue-licking pictures and immediately concluding that that means they must be gay?

Fucking PMS.

In jollier news, I just got another $7 referral fee from your-site, thanks to whomever you are! (Total femgeeks funds: $91!)

[/symathy] I feel your pain on the LoTR RPS.

Well, if it makes you feel any better...

The people who are thoroughly convinced that RPSers are all delusional freaks probably wouldn't change their minds even *without* the rabid teenies who think the guys really are gay.

(There were people like that in NSync fandom too, weren't there? Or at least, I seem to recall there being some huge blowup about "Believers" vs. non-believers. *smacks people*)

Re: Well, if it makes you feel any better...

That's true, but still, it feels as if all my rational arguments are slipping through my fingers. Gah!

And yes, there were, but they didn't make up most of the fandom! Or at least I wasn't confronted with them.

Right. Relativation. I can do that.

*sob* The same teenies that are ruining LOTR RPS are ruining LOTR FPS too.

(really. I am tempted to start a Very Secret List where mature people can discuss LOTR FPS/RPS slashiness, without resorting to screaming "oooooohh," every few minutes and submitting badly spelled fanfics. Well, maybe some "oooooohs" would be allowed, but no badly spelled fanfic. Really. Tempted.)

If you do create such a list, count me in. I need people who understand how good disturbing slash is.

Re:

At this point, I'd settle for people who understand that no matter how disturbing slash is, it's still just a story, and no one is actually harmed by it.

But even that seems to be asking too much.

I'm just completely amazed that the basic fact that all of this is fiction has escaped a large majority of this list.

Re:

Theory: this is because quite a lot of them used to be anti-RPS. (Just check a few intros if you don't believe me.) So they're not used to see this as "just fiction", it's always been stalking and invasion of privacy for them, except that now, they're doing it themselves.

Or something.

Hmm. That is a good point. You may be right.

*nods* I think you're right. And if you do decide to have a list like that, please count me in. It might be nice to have a list where actual sentences are used rather than annoying teenie-speak.

Oh so tempting...the teenies are killing me here...

I'd be so very up for such a list. I've had to go to no mail on all my LoTR lists, just for sheer inability to cope with the teenie factor.

Re:

I'd join. I'd even host it on femgeeks, if you want.

The lo-trips people are generally not very bright.

I think I'm up to causing trouble in at least four, maybe five separate fandoms.

You're so right on the first one.

On the second one, I'll settle for lotrips for now. But I think I'm up to an argument in that. Oh, yeah.

Re: *grins evilly*

When I say I've caused trouble, I mean that I, personally, have been responsible for all sorts of things. In this case, it was my plot bunny that started the discussion. On PC, people left because I was there and disagreeing with people. And do I even need to mention Metallica?

Re: *grins evilly*

Was it a plot bunny? I'd like it if it were (I'm in full evil mode tonight, obviously). PC? I thought that was Molly who started that debate. If people want to leave over disagreement, let them. As for Metallica...that wasn't really your fault. If people can't take differing opinions in fandom, they're in the wrong hobby.

It took me a while to get that, but at least I know it.

Re: *grins evilly*

My original post about the Viggo/Orlando age thing in which I mentioned Henry was meant, more or less, to be a plot bunny.

I guess Molly did start the PC discussion, but I'm fairly sure Stagie left because I was there. She left another list once before because someone she didn't like was on it.

Metallica really was my fault.

It's not just fandom. You encounter differing opinions in life. I really respect Leetal for letting the discussion go where it will. She's not trying to pretend that people always agree.

Re: *grins evilly*

You know...I really want to see that story (that's the one with the older Henry, yes?)

Well, with Stagie, I think she was looking for an excuse to leave once you joined. I don't care, because I refused to take sides on the tallific vs metslash debate until I was dragged into it.

Well, I didn't think it was, but if you do. I think perhaps the whole LJ war might have been your fault if anything was, but having a differing opinion was not your fault.

Exactly. I mean, my closest friend who is practically my clone and I have differences of opinion all the time. We get past that.

I think Leetal is handling it amazingly. I also think that for the most part, the list is doing great with it as well. For the most part.

*sigh* I know what you mean. It seems as much as those of us who are trying to "school" them so to speak are just speaking to the air. I've seen the same thing happen in a few other fandoms, and unfortunately I fear we can't avoid it when said fandoms have such appeal to the "teenies".

I hope you feel better though *hugs*

Re:

Yeah, I'm afraid you're right. In most fandoms, newbies get sort of assimilated, they lurk for a while to learn basic things, like Do Not Toppost, Do Not Bash Pairings, etc. unfortuinately, this fandom is run by newbies, and *cringe*.
coneyislandbaby: (Default)

From: [personal profile] coneyislandbaby

I'm pretty sure that's almost all the difficulty...I really am.

From: [identity profile] arami.livejournal.com

Re:

Yes exactly. And with the newbies not taking any kind of netiquette advice, and from what I can see, pretty much ignoring those who've been in fandom for a while, it doesn't look to end sooner.

I think that may have been me. *g* I just signed up for a site at your-site (I am now the owner of two domains...my decent into total geekdom is almost complete...) and when they asked how I got there, I said you referred me. *g*
