Why is everyone in fandom suddenly contemplating slashers and wether or not we perpetrate the myth that boys being affectionate wih each other means they're gay? So far, there's three different people in the past few days, one of them yours truly.

This amuses me greatly. Of *course* slashers perpetuate the myth that if boys are affectionate with each other, they must be really gay. Of course, they also perpetuate the myth that if boys hate each other, they must be secretly gay. After all, we all know what that nasty agression is *really* covering up. And then there's the little-known corollary where if you're in a scene with any fictional character played by Peter Wingfield or Callum Keith Rennie... So very gay!

Sometimes I think slashers overrate their influence. If I see two cute boys pawing each other, it's not going to be the millions of puppyfics that I've read that's going to be influencing my naughty thoughts.

Well, maybe a little.
