And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me
(Ruth 1:16-17)

I've always thought those would make perfect wedding vows. Interesting when you consider that they're from one woman to another.

Re:

*nodnod* I came acros them when I read the bible in its entirety, all those years ago, and was reminded of them by godlovesfags.com. It's one of the most beautiful declarations of love I've ever seen.

They were my wedding vows. We had to do the legalese thing, and my mother insisted on a bible reading, so I chose that passage. It's about friendship and love and both of you being willing to make sacrifices and understand each other. Wonderful.

this is entirely unrelated, but happy birthday!

That passage has always stuck me as poignantly beautiful.
