"Why aren't fictional characters enough for these writers?"
Ge, honey, perhaps because we get inspired by characters that aren't fictional? No, of copurse not, we purposely go out to look for Real People to write about. Fuckers.

Really, it's just the whole "why isn't fps enough" that gets to me. Well, why aren't original characters enough for them? Why do the have to take other people's creations and twist them? Fuckers.

I know what you mean. But don't let it get to you too much, ok? :) Sounds to me like they're only frantically searching for a way to prove their moral isn't damaged by writing slash because hey, they still respect (real) people's private life despite borrowing copyrighted characters from others. But like you say, who of those RP really care/know of it anyway?
Blah. Stupid people.

It's just. They don't ever want to argue, or even just admit that yeah, it's a personal thing and whatever.
(To be fair, a lot of non-RPSers do admit that. It's just that a lot of them on this particular list are of the Holien Than Thou school, and a lot of those don't even seem to realise they're doing it.)

If I weren't so tired I'd write another Bill/Steve/Larry installment, but I guess I'll just have to settle for watching Jerry Springer. Feuding rednecks make everything better!

You know, for a while there, I was wondering if I'd been too subtle
Actually, it is a question I've been meaning to ask for ages, because, tbh, I always felt a little odd promoting bifictional (RP & FP) lists on solely FP lists, but I also felt that it was less touchy to let people know ahead of time that the lists accept RPS.
I'm a Libra. Decisions are not an easy thing for me.
But really, yeah, it's the "those people" -- that exact phrase -- that pisses me off.
Yes, me too. For exactly the reasons you said.
You know, these arguments always piss me off to the point where I can't bear to write FPS. Not that that's a problem this moment *looks at huge partly done story*, but I know my next bunny is going to be FPS, because the fucker's already writing sentences in my head. Still, maybe it'll have blown over by then.

I may not always succeed, but I do try very hard to see both POVs in an argument.
How can you make a rational decision if you can't?

If I had a quotes page, I would totally quote that.

But they're still incredibly looking down on us, because we're just stalkers and delusionals who see slashyness in charcaters and apply it to the actors (hello? musicianslash, anyone?) and argh!
Luckily, from where i'm standing, it seems to be mostly the "old school" slashers. Most of the younger generation (and the non-old schoolers of the previous "generations") have a more "whatever" attitude.
That's really my big hope. That in five or ten years, RPF will be as accepted within fandom as it is outside of it. I really think the people who're coming into fandom now will have it easier writing RPS, and the next generations will have it easier still. I guess it was just my bad luck that my "generation" was one of the first to really bring RPS into the open, to not be ashamed of it.
