1982- Duff forms a band with Slash and Steven. It doesn't last long.
1983- Axl and Izzy form a band
1984- Izzy substitutes for Slash in another band, Axl hooks up with Tracii Guns. A little while later, the original GnR is formed with: Axl, Izzy, Tracii, Duff and Robert Gardner.
3 days before their first show, Tracii and Robert bail out and are replaced with Slash and Steven.
They supposedly played their music sober in the early days, but threw themselves into drugs and woman during the downtimes. They recorded their first EP in 1986.
During the Donington Monsters of Rock tour in 1988, the band had a lot of problems with drugs and alcohol. Plus, Axl was being a royal pain in the ass. That's when Slash gave up heroin.
In 1990, Steven grew tired of the band's problems and quit, he was replaced with Matt Sorum. Dizzy Reed joins too.
Right after the start of the Use Your Illusion tour, Izzy quit suddenly and was replaced with Gilby Clark.
The Spagehetti Incident? caused a lot of problems between the bandmembers.
Slash and Gilby left the band. Axl reformed with Duff, Matt and Dizzy, but told Duff and Matt that if they didn't perform up to his standards, they'd be kicked out.
