My sympathies. The name I was born with has no less than a dozen legitimate spellings. AND my last name was Nance (one syllable, phonetic nantz), so I got the added variable of reversing my names (also my first name was a legitimate last name as well!) and getting called Nancy, which used to piss me off entirely too much...

At least no one misspells my name now. MisPRONOUNCE it, yes. (There's a reason everybody calls me Ro. I hate being called i-ROW-she. If you can't say ee-row-SHEE then just say Ro. :) But nobody misspells it, because everybody ASKS how to spell it.

Random note of the day: the award for the worst possible pronounciation of my name goes to my husband's grandmother who has been known to call me eye-ROW-sha, with a pronounced Texan drawl. (And no, I don't blink an eye at it when she does it. I have no clue how old she is, but she doesn't need to be harangued over her inability to speak Japanese! *G* I just try to encourage them to call me Ro or Iro and leave it at that.)

Re:

Oh, don't even get me started on last names. How anyone (well, anyone who speaks Dutch) could misspell 'Werkers' is beyond me, but they do! All the friggin time! Argh!

And, the English pronunciation of my name used to drive me up the wall. It's Sofie. Short o, emphasis on the first syllable. Only my boss pronounces it right, cause I asked him to. This is why I prefer to go by 'Melle'. ^_^
