From bradfitz's lj_maintenance update:
The site will be down in 30 minutes for probably 30 minutes. That's 12:30 am -- 1:00 am PDT (-0800 GMT). So GMT would
be 8:30 am -- 9:00 am. My apologies to those of you in Europe who are just getting into work and are bored. You'll actually
have to work this morning. :-)
Feh. Feh, I say, feh! :p

Because I'm bored and because LJ is still down 37 minutes after it's supposed to have been back up, I will now continue to talk about the list of songs that've apparently been banned from the radiowaves.

Metallica - Seek and Destroy
Metallica - Harvester or Sorrow
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Metallica - Fade to Black

Okay, I understand why they might find SaD offensive. HoS, okay, yeah, maybe. FtB has a history of "offensiveness". But ES? WTF?

All Rage Against The Machine songs

Huh. Go Zack & Co!

REM - It's the End of the World as We Know - It

Okay, yeah, I get the point. But it still made me smile first time I heard it since Tuesday.

Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian

The Bangles? Offensive? *blink*

Alanis Morissette - Ironic

And again, I ask, WTF?

The Beatles - A Day in the Life
The Beatles - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
The Beatles - Ticket To Ride
The Beatles - Obla Di, Obla Da

And yet again, what the fucking fuck? I bet John would find the concept of Ob La Di, Ob La Da being banned hilarious. Goddamn freaks.

Bob Dylan/Guns N Roses - Knockin' on Heaven's Door

OPookay, taking personal offense here. This was on my Comfort Playlist during this whole thing. I can't really see the offense. It's a comforting song, people.

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday

Another Playlist song. See above. Not comforting per se, but singing along with it was a great way of expressing myself.

Barry McGuire - Eve of Destruction

Heh. Now I want to hear that song. Oddly appropriate, ne?

Los Bravos - Black is Black
Eh?

Elvis - (You're the) Devil in Disguise

Again, eh?

Elton John - Daniel

Yet again, EH?

Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World

WTFuckingF? Comfort Song, people!

Simon And Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

Zjah? Hello?

Yager and Evans - In the Year 2525

That one makes even less sense than all the other ones.

Hollies - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

No, wait, this one. I can vaguely comprehend people not wanting to play What a Wonderful World, but this? This? Argh!

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Travelin' Band

Need I say it anymore? WTF?

Update: It's now 54 minutes later than the original deadline, and 9 minutes past the new one. C'me on, guys. I'm: boooooored.

Jesus Chris. Excuse me, I seem to have developed a sudden urge for Bruce Springsteen songs.

Zjah! Bruce Springsteen did a song with the Wallflowers? Gah!

Update: Four minutes past the yet even newer deadline. A bit more accurate estimates, boys?

Er. Just realised tomorrow is femgeeks.net's birthday. Ooiii. That means lots of html tonight, because the day after, I'm sposed to put up independentsoul.net. Ack.

Another 40 minutes? Whine? Argh!

[livejournal.com profile] dormando! Stop gloating and make the slaves update faster!

Grmbl. Late start on purpose? Why must this be my server? Arg!

Huh. So I'm looking through rrosa's picture pages, and I just wanted to note that in this picture, JC vaguegy reminds me of Larry Mullen in drag. No, seriously. Y'know, in the One video by Anton Corbijn? Wow.

YES! Back!

From: [identity profile] wax-jism.livejournal.com

1. I love that pic of JC. serene diva! serene diva! baby. mmh.

2. apparently, they're considering ANY song with the words 'fly', 'airplane', 'crash', 'fire', 'war', 'destruction', 'underpants' offensive. (maybe not the last one. but one would imagine).

Ironic: "mr. play-it-safe was afraid to fly, packed his suitcase, kissed his kids goodbye. he waited his whole damn life to take that flight, and as the plane crashed down, he thought, 'well, isn't this nice?'"

so maybe. but still. stop coddling people! argh!

Re:

1. Yes. Just yes.

2. Okay, so I'm asking, why is U2's War not on there? I mean, they should be banning just about 2/3rds of their songs! And why ban Sinatra's NY, NY, but not U2's? Huh? Idiots. Can't even stick their heads up their asses correctly.

From: [identity profile] absolutelyvile.livejournal.com

"Daniel" was on an airplane, or something...

"Black is Black, I want my baby back..." Is that even the right song I'm thinking of? Anyham, that line *may* be offensive in light of the death toll.

Plus, I'm sure if they banned Sinatra's "NY, NY", they didn't want to seperately list everyone who has covered it. S'just assumed that they won't play it.

Good thing I don't listen to the radio.

Re:

Oh, right. "Daniel is leaving tonight on a plane." Huh.

If that's so, why is U2's Tomorrow not on there? That's about a kid lsing his mother!

Sorry, should've been clearer. U2 have their own song about NY. From the new album.

And yeah, me too!

From: [identity profile] daznjonesy.livejournal.com

U2's New York isn't on there because (in the US at least) it's not a single and hasn't been released for radio play. If a radio station were to play it, they'd be operating a little outside the law and couldn't be bothered with this list anyway.

And I can't believe Savage Garden's Crash and Burn is on that list! It's an anti-suicide song!

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re:

That's weird. I don't think we have that rule in Belgium. (Or maybe we do. I don't usually listen to the radio.)

Yeah, so's Fade To Black. Idiots.

What a Wonderful World?

Ok, I am so lost on that one...

And btw, on a U2 note, they played "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" on MTV yesterday, and....good God, that's a hilarious video! They were such GOOFS! And Edge (or The Edge or Mr. The Edge or whatever his proper name is) looked wayyyy younger. Like, younger than everyone else. It was odd. And funny :)

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re: What a Wonderful World?

Wheee, Edgie! ('Proper' name is The Edge. Friends call him Edge. Obsessed teenyboppers with glittery 'Kiss Him!' signs call him Mr The Edge or Edgie. ^_^-

Re: What a Wonderful World?

Oh, ok, thank you. Now I'll know what to call him when trying to tell my mom who he is. "The guy who slips on the nachos" just wasn't working (that's his major contribution to the American "Stuck in a Moment" vid) :)

Re: What a Wonderful World?

Dude. You people are being deprived, yo! The European vid for that one is just so slashy. Beyond belief.

Re: What a Wonderful World?

Yeah, I know we are, but I saw the European video on the net thanks to that lovely link you posted, so I did get to see the extreme slashiness :)

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Re: What a Wonderful World?

Wheee! Yes. Slashiness good. Should watch that again sometimes. Seem to be caught in the throes of LarryLove. Need to be dragged back into OTPness.

Gee, what about the one Pearl Jam covered -- does it not count just because it dealt with a *car* crash? >=P

"Oh, where oh where can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me ... "

From: [identity profile] sunshinegirl.livejournal.com

Y'know, I *woke* up to that song a couple of days ago. Winced, and hit the snooze button as fast as possible.

I've also heard Mark Wills' Wish You Were Here (heh, almost typed Wish You Were Het, *snerk*) and that's another one about a plane crash.

Please, do let's be hypocrites about what we ban. Sheesh.

Oh, for god's sake. It looks like they've gone through and found anything with a reference to planes, fire, etc...and banned it. 's like when I heard they were going through TV show openers set in NY and editing out shots of the skyline that included the WTC. I was like, "The *hell?* They can't possibly be serious. Can they?" And then I laughed.

Think, people. Don't just react. That's bad.

Re:

Was talking about this to a coworker yesterday. In a way, it's uderstandable that they don't want to remind people of the loss. But it's no good pretending the towers were never there in the first place, y'know?
