I hereby reserve my right not to talk to any American citizen right now, at least not about Tuesday. because I have strong opinions, which have been only enforced bytoday's family dinner, and they are gonna hurt people if I speak them out loud.

Yes, more than i've already done with the American thing. And I know refusing to talk will hurt people too, but trust me. This'll be worse.

Well, so much for that allied-unity thing. I'll be off combing my hair carefully to cover my mark of Yankee Cain...

Yeah, you know what? Just interpret everything I say in the worst fucking way. That's rally gonna make me wanna talk about sensitive issues.

Sofie, the person I intend to spend the rest of my life with is in the army and we're on the brink of war. What you said about your brother tends to make me think you share the same fears, which is probably why we should both calm down and stop snapping at each other. So apologies from my end.

Jesus, I hope M's terminal leave hasn't been postponed or somehow affected by this. Let's pray to whatever higher power(s), sit zazen, whatever, that that doesn't happen, and she can leave the Army as planned in October.

And yes, I think we all have to be try to be tactful, tolerant and considerate of one another's feelings at the moment. Everyone's emotions are very high and probably vascillating between any number of them - anger, grief, fear . I'm not saying at all that anyone shouldn't express how they feel, but I think it's important to take a few deep breaths and try not to post regrettable knee-jerk responses to one another in moments of high passion.

See, now I'm afraid I sound too patronising. :-(

No, not at all--I can *feel* and see people, myself included, snapping and biting at one another like hamsters in a cage. Classic stress reaction, which doesn't make it any more pleasant to experience.

Mary's unit is very low on the list of potential call-ups and would probably end up doing something entirely stateside even if they were. Nonetheless...you worry, y'know. A whole lot can happen in a month. Or in a day, as we've seen. Oh, well. Stiff upper lip. :-)

Absolutely. :-) This sounds pretty cheesey, but I think we all just have try to take it one day at a time for now.
