I really want to print this out and give it to my mother next time we have a kids talk.

Geez

This bugs the hell out of me, too. Why are women expected to have children? It really bothers me when I'm talking to someone and they say something to the effect of "But what are you going to do when you have kids?"

It drives me crazy. Why is it assumed that I'm going to have kids? I don't really think I want any (I am only 17, though), and if I ever have them, that's going to be a choice that I make. Not something I do just because society expects it of me.

Um, right. Okay.

Oh no, rant away!

The fact that you're 'only' 17 makes it even worse that they're saying things like that. I remember being 15, talking to someone my age about my plans in life. At that point (and still), those included travelling a lot and living either in a big city centre or in the middle of nowhere.

"But," the other girl says, "What about your children? Wouldn't it be better for them to grow up in a small town or something, rather than a dangerous and unhealthy city or away from everyone and everything? And what if your husband doesn't want to take care of the kids while you're off travelling."

I was flabbergasted. I still am.
