I've not seen the pilot, which does leave me with the feeling that I'm missing some backstory, sadly. Is it worth tracking the pilot down, or should I not bother?

It's worth tracking down (I think it's on youtube, actually) if you like the series, just because it's interesting seeing the changes they've made. I think the series is much more humorous than the pilot -- a good thing in my book. Pilot!Mitchell is more stereotypical brooding gothy vampire than new!Mitchell, who's got more of a guy-next-door thing going on. But I think you might like the original Annie.

*cough* I totally made some art for it a while back, btw. And a leeetle primer/picspam, but that's (very) vaguely spoilery for the first three eps.

Well, Mitchell already tends to look like he sauntered right out of one, a lot of the time, so he wouldn't be out of place. Although i think poor George might go bright red, hee.
