So I'm thinking of switching to an actual contract mobile, and finally giving in an getting a fancy phone. (I suspect I'm temporarily insane, but whatever. I resisted for years, bu I want a camera phone, dammit!) Anyone got any recommendations? I was thinking of staying with Virgin so I could keep my number, but that doesn't seem to be possible. Hrm.

[ETA] So tempting..[/ETA]

I have this one, and I'm thinking of changing for another when I take a french mobile number, soon. They say in their review that it's unreliable, but mine hasn't been, it's been good. The battery has weakened because well, the phone is 2 years old, but apart from that it's still okay.

any interest on your part?

Most mobile operators here offer (very shiny!) free phones when you sign up, so I'll likely go with a new one, but thanks anyway!

I've heard 3 are quite good although I have no personal experience of them. I like Orange but I have a Pay as you go mobile so don't know how good their contracts are.

Hmm...I'm not being helpful am I?

Check your email! There's a surprise there for you!

I've never heard anything good about Three, and I already told you my opinion of the Motorola handsets. :o)

One thing I didn't say in email, though: before signing up for /anything/, go to a shop and play with the actual handset in person. [livejournal.com profile] elance nearly signed up for one of the Sony-Ericsson handsets, but it turned out to be absolutely huge and ugly in person.

I'm on Orange and they're very good. My ("free") phone is ace. Got there eventually - had two crappy phones whose joysticks died very quickly. Anyway my advice is, don't get a phone with a joystick. The Sony Ericsson w810i is wonderful. Um, that's it :)

I have a motorola slvr on an Orange contract and so far it's been ok. I'm on a cashback deal which basically means you pay nothing for your minutes if you remember to send back your invoices every three months. I've only had my phone for a month so I don't know how reliable the system is but from what my friends say it seems like a genuine deal.
