A mixed bag of reactions:

• I ... may have had a Daleks/Cybermen moment and then shouted "EW FUCK NO!" at the tv.
• Maybe. You cannae prove anything, etc.
• There was entirely too much Mickey/Rose vibing going on in this episode. *frowns*
• Also, the ending was a bit too shmalzy for me. They should have ended it at the point where Rose was sucked into the void, and not let Pete save her, because the whole copout from the dying? Lame, RTD, really lame.
• Also, I totally yelled at him not to say "I love you." And then when he cried I told him to "Cheer up, emo Time Lord." Because I'm mean and heartless, apparently. Um.
• On the plus side: Jake! JAKE! Jake Jake Jake oh, he was lovely in the few moments he was onscreen.
• Also, Mickey sliding over to grab his Big Gun! <3! I wonder what those two are going to do now that there's no more Cybermen to battle.
• Well, Rose is going to work at Torchwood, so probably they will too.
• Scientist bloke getting all his knowledge sucked out, whoa. That was creepycool.
• Cyber!TorchwoodLady! Doing her duty for Queen and Country! And she cried!
• Mickey's grin as the Doctor came in. Aww, bless.
• "I told you he was good." Heeee! (Mickey/Ten wheee!)
• There were several nice shots of Rose's cleavage. Woo! \o/
• This is not a dislike about the show, because I like that they made the Doctor less bright and shiny, but the way his argument with Pete to convince him to help the other world consisting of "But your wife!", which is the complete opposite of what he told Rose in AoS/RotC, and I was yelling at the screen all "WTF YOU CONNIVING BIATCH!"
• Oh! Him thinking she's pregant, at the end? Bwahahaha! Oh, the "They're not shagging lalalala" contingent is going to have kittens about this! *glees*
• I love the bit in this week's Confidential with Noel Clarke climbing into the Dalek. Dr Who: turning grown-ass adults into gleeful teenagers since the Sixties! :D

[ETA] After a second viewing:

• "It's like Stephen Hawkins meets the speaking clock." OH MICKEY!
• Man, the Cybermen vs Daleks battle of one-liners = WIN!
• Jake is so hot when he's all commanding. "Go!" Mmm.
• You must all go do Kate's bidding.
• "Good to see you." "And you, boss." Nawwwww!
• Oh, god, the Pete/Jackie reunion scene, when she tells the Doctor to shut up, and he's all "... Right," and Mickey's smirking at him and LOVE!
• "We can always take the lift." I love Jake. LOVE!

Yeah, but getting sucked into the void is like ten times worse than dying. I was really scared they would end it like that, 'cause that would mean she'd be in that void forever with the Daleks and the Cybermen (can they kill her in the void? Hm. Come to think of it, can they kill eachother? Because otherwise, I'm sure they're having lots of fun, there... ;-)) and that's just... *shudder*

'M glad the Doc didn't get to say 'I love you', though, because that would really have been over the top. But I suppose there had to be some kind of closure there (though I love that the (too) emotional moment gets followed up by the somewhat humorous'what the fuck' thing with the bride *g*).

Oh, god, the Pete/Jackie reunion scene, when she tells the Doctor to shut up, and he's all "... Right," and Mickey's smirking at him and LOVE!

One wonders why Mickey was pulling such a funny face, though, when Jackie told Pete there had been no one else. *g*

My Dr Who background-knowledge is poor in the best case, but I don't get why it's the humans calling it 'hell', then. The Daleks & Cybermen certainly didn't seem to be much bothered.

Also, in a way, I find even this ending worse than her death. Perhaps it's because I adher to the 'no life after death' school of thought and therefore think she certainly wouldn't be sad after dying, but there you go. Now she'll have to go on every minute of her life remembering the Doctor and knowing she'll never see him again. There's something extrememly sad about that.

See, it occured to me thnat maybe that was what we were supposed to think, but I don't think those two got back together, first of all (not just because of Jake, but also because she needs someone who can make a new first impression before she can get over the Doctor), and I didn't get the impression they'd been in the other universe long enough for that to happen. Hm. Though the Doctor may think so, yeah.

Still, I'm so hoping for wank.

That's definitely what we're supposed to think, although it's ambiguous enough to keep the fangirls talking until Christmas.

I'll accept that it's what he was thinking, but the idea of Rose/Mickey makes me want to throw things around, dammit. (And not just because of OTP issues, either, but because it just cheapens his entire character arc.)

I think RTD's been writing for a pre-teen audience, so things like decent characterisation and character arcs aren't important to him.

Yeah, he mentioned on Confidential that he couldn't actually kill her off because it's a kiddie show, or somesuch. (My knowledge of Old Who is shaky at best, but wasn't there at least one other Companion who got killed off?) And it's bullshit anyway; Harry Potter has proven you can kill of characters without kids hating the books/show forever, and dammit, Dr Who has a pretty damned big adult audience as well. (Not to mention, if you're not going to actually kill her off, don't get cutesy with the "This is the story of how I died," dammit.)

We didn't watch all of the Confidential (we left after ~15 minutes to go to literaltruth's),but that fits with what he's said before.

They killed off exactly one previous Companion, and that was a pretty big deal, but you're entirely right - there's numerous examples of doing something like that and having it be fine with kids. RTD should know better - he started his career writing some really brilliant children's dramas.
