I am so confused. Last time I watched Sky's run of Buffy, it was first season, wee young things all over, and now it's suddenly ... one of the last eps, I suspect, and Giles looks old and Xander's lost an eye and Spike has .. a soul, WTF? So confused!

*goes to read Spike/Xander to soothe soul*

soulful spike is evil. Bloody obvious Joss wasn't writing that last (very bad) season. I really wish they'd showed that, despite the lack of a soul, Spike did have some good in him. He showed that often enough in previous seasons. And Angel, for all his souled-upness... well, let's say he wasn't always such a nice bloke either.

I kinda liked soulful Spike from what little I saw of him (though I agree that he didn't need the soul to be at all good), but the Spike/Buffy thing turned me off. I'm irrational, I know.

It's been way too long since I saw most of Buffy, and even then I only ever watched it up to S4, so. Buh?

Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction while it was still airing. And it hasn't improved much in retrospect. My personal lame way of coping with it is pretending the series ended after season 3 (or 5 if I'm feeling generous) and that only Angel existed after that point. 'Cause Angel rocked.

I stopped watching shortly after Hush, and like to pretend even most of S4 didn't happen, except for the Spike/Xander subtexty moments.

... God, I sound like a horrible bitter old fan. Ergh.

Sad fact: that's actually right about when I started to watch it. Later I caught up on the first few seasons and I was just blown away.

It was a brilliant turn of events that took seven years, had references and continuity and great writing, and made sense - you know, if you watch the middle parts.

I'm in love with Joss THIS MUCH.

By the way, unrelated but I had to say it. Some time ago I defriended you by accident because I'm very stupid and lists of ticky boxes confuse me. I hadn't noticed and only wondered why you went so quiet, before I realised you do update your lj and I just can't see it. The moment I noticed I refriended, of course. Now I wonder if I lost any more people in that very stupid listening-to-someone-else-on-how-to-fix-flist-coloury-things event.

Go watch Buffy. It's good for the soul.

I would, but Sky is airing episodes in COMPLETELY RANDOM ORDER! No, really. That ep was the last one, and then an hour later there was the one where Buffy turned eighteen, which was ... S2 or S3, I think? Like I wasn't confused enough as it was!

S3, Helpless.

Rent the DVDs or something if you can afford :)

That's how Star World tends to air stuff. Various seasons simultaneously at different times. Very confusing, but also leads to interesting combinations.

When I started Buffy, one channel had started S3 adn two weeks later another channel started S1 and continued to S2. So I got Buffy twice a week, with really odd combos. Got used to it, but for a lot of eps, I seriously can't tell which season they belong to.

it was the last ever episode today, yep. made me sob like a little girl.

Apart from my Spike issues, it did look good, I just ... missed two whole seasons and it's been ages since I saw even those, so. Confused!

All these people talking about Buffy and no one's asking you the important question: What Spike/Xander are you going off to read?

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Hee! Mostly re-reading old favourites--I strayed into the Nummy Treats archive for a bit, but a lot of these stories have formatting issues (curly quotes being returned as gibberish, I think) and I'm pissed off at the front page for vaguely irrational reasons.
