Today's theme: fun stuff to buy! For grate yaye!
First up: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, purveyors of smelly stuff. I resisted them for a long time despite the ravings from, oh, everyone, because of that thing where I can't smell a lot and also because of the other thing where I don't wear anything but The Body Shop's vanilla, and even that rarely. Except then it kinda hit me the other day that one of the reasons I don't like most perfumes is not just the floweriness, but also the smell as they evaporate off my skin, the whole aclohol thing. (Which I think is probably also why my skin dries out if I use them too much.) And BPAL? Are essential oils. Which I think also means could possibly get non-scented bodywash and stuff from The Body Shop and add some of these to them, which would be cool.
Plus, they have the bestest perfume names ever. (Also, I was promiseed I'd smell like sex. What? I'm easy!)
So, yeah, I'm ordering a set two sets (sigh) of imps (samples) today, though I'm also buying a couple second-hand off a friend because BPAL is often a bit slow with shipping. (As would be the case with hand-blended things, obviously.) What I'm getting:
From a friend:
- Veil: A quiet scent, soft, calm and enigmatic. A perfume of mystery, of whispers, and of secrets behind secrets. White sandalwood, lilac, gardenia, violet, orris, lavender and ylang ylang. I've had good experiences with ylang ylang scents in body washes and the likes, so I thought I'd give this one a shot.
- Tempest: A crisp ozone-tinged breeze. The scent of the first gentle rain before the storm. If this actually smells like it sounds, this may end up being my favouritest scent ever. *crosses fingers*
- The Hanging Gardens: This perfume is an interpretation of the Hanging Gardens by night, based on further accounts of its fruit and flora: date palm, ebony, fir, pomegranate, plum, two pears, quince, fig, and grapevine with plumeria, three gardenias and dry rose. This one too is here just because I adore the description of it. I have some doubts as to how well this will actually work on me, but on the off-chance that it will ...
- Mata Hari: [S]triking and bold with a delicate yet dark undertone: five roses with soft jasmine, warmed by vanilla, fig, tonka bean and mahogany, spiced with a drop of coffee bean.
Click and Ship:
- Belle Époque: Sweet opium, Lily of the Valley, vanilla, mandarin and red sandalwood. I'm trying mostly either vanilla scents and some of the more masculine ones, and this one sounds like one of the better vanilla ones.
- Dorian: This blend is an artful deception: a sweet gilded blossom lying over a twisted and corrupted core. A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea. Another vanilla scent, recommended highly by
cleolinda, and, well. The name played a part, yes. - Dragon's Milk: A truly fae nectar! Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla. Recommneded as well, and just the sound of "honeyed vanilla" makes me sigh.
- Eclipse: A delicious blend of bitter almond, vanilla, frankincense and heliotrope, with a drop of cinnamon. Another vanilla scent, with cinnamon! I may end up smelling like a cinammon roll with vanilla icing, but you know? There's worse things to smell like.
- Golden Priapus: A truly carnal, energetic men's blend: vanilla and amber with juniper, rosewood and white pine. One of the masculine scents, and one of the ones recommended to me as being sex-in-a-bottle. If nothing else, I love the name. "Gosh, you smell good." "Thanks, I'm wearing Golden Priapus." How cool would that be?
- Highwayman: Stand and deliver! Vetiver with gardenia, blood red rose, night-blooming jasmine, a dash of cinnamon and a faint hint of leather. Another masculine scent, and my consolation for not being able to buy De Sade. ("Raw leather" scent--I mean, dude. Also, the name.)
- Hollywood Babylon: The essence of innocence shattered: glittering Egyptian amber and heliotrope, infused with the sweetness of strawberry and vanilla - dragged into debauch by lusty red musk and a dribble of black cherry. Another recommended vanilla scent. I was won over by the description, yes.
- Jolly Roger: Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods. My pick from a rather longish list of "sea-smelly scents". Sometimes, I need to remember I live near the sea.
- Juke Joint: A bawdy, gleefully wicked and unruly scent: Kentucky Bourbon, sugar and a sprig of mint. Recommended from the masculine scents, and doesn't it sound fabulous?
- O: The scent of sexual obsession, slavery to sensual pleasure, and the undercurrent of innocence defiled utterly. Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla. As in The Story of O, yes. Apparently the top "sex-in-a-bottle" scent at BPAL, and it has vanilla, so in it goes!
- Snake Oil: Magnetic, mysterious, and exceedingly sexual in nature. A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla. Secondmost popular sexy scent, also with vanilla. This stuff better get me laid, is all I'm saying.
- Tombstone: A rugged, warm blend of vanilla, balsam and sassafras layered over Virginia cedar. Another recommended masculine scent, and another one that has a Wild West theme. Apparently, I want to smell like a gay cowboy. (What?)
Expect updates on this, btw. I should make a wish list of these, as well.
Secondly: Free silver jewelry! Well, you pay shipping costs, but that's still cheap for real silver jewelry.
cleolinda (whose affiliate link I'm pimping out here, natch) says the real deal's actually smaller than it looks on the site, but it's real silver, which makes me a happy Melle. Unfortunately, they don't ship to the UK, but I plan to badger someone into letting me shiop to their address when I see something I really want.
And on a completely different note: cutest GO fanart EVAH.

My favourite scent is Anubis.
And just as a warning, I ordered some earrings from that Free Silver Jewelry Club, and by the way they irritated my ears I'm not totally sure they're 100% silver. But the irritation went away, and they're very cute. :)

I'm sticking with imps for now, until and unless I find a scent that really strikes me. (Shipping is a bitch to the UK, woe.)
