Oooh, shiny new toy! Pretteh! *plays with it*

Had to take a break from knitting for a few days because my wrists were bugging me, but I'm back in full force now.

I've decided not to go with the Broad Street Mittens after all, but with these. Except in black, obviously. I'm also thinking of making the pretty blue/teal yarn that can vaguely be seen here into a triangular shawl for my brother's girlfriend. Hey, 17-yos on my friendslist, would this be something a teenaged girl would like? She's kinda goth/punk, not uber-trendy, and I figure a nice shawl is always handy to wear over a dress or a sleeveless top on a chilly night, right?

I also kinda want to try cabling. Hey, [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit, for your hat, how about something like this, except obviously with stripes instead of solid colour.

[ETA] Almost forgot, one of the pullovers I got for frogging is getting a black dye bath and is turning into a pair of these. Yay slippers![/ETA]

Does that portal not rock? It's all convenient and such.

Those gloves are coolest things ever. And sure, that hat looks great. :)

I wish the update thingie had more options, but yes! Birthdays in a handy location! Yay!

Yay, cabling! ... Crap, now I have to go and buy a cabling needle, don't I? The people at my Local Yarn Store are getting to know me by name. *facepalm*

But that takes you to the full update page, and I wanted the options to be in the portal. *pout*</em

Awww. *pet* I didn't realize you wanted to stay in the portal. Maybe they'll give more options on it in the future? :)

Cabling is teh awesome! I love it. I like that hat pattern, that was my first cabling project. There's an awesome cabled hat pattern in Stitch n Bitch nation. it's lots of cables in the round going all the way up.

Ooooh, I should check that one out. I used to be afraid of cabling, but it looks pretty easy.

ooh, I was thinking about making the cigar gloves too. Or maybe cigar gloves with little removable caps for the finger tops. And and a severed thumb with blood splattering out (http://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/fashion/knitting/download/index.html).

Ahh, knitting.

My friend designed that cabled hat. :D

And you don't need a specific cable needle -- you can swap in a double-pointed needle or even use a safety pin or a paper clip. There's also a "cabling without a cabled needle" technique, but I have yet to learn that one.

Your friend ROCKS! :D

I think a DPN will be a bit too long to be easy to use, but a paperclip, yes, or something similar. Though I probably will actually get a cable needle. I've developed something of a tool fetish for knitting stuff. *hangs head in shame*

Aren't they fab? :D My current ones are five years old, and I've been wanting to start to learn socks anyway, so this seemed like a good opportunity. ^_^

And they look so comfy! One day I'll have mastered the knitting and will be able to make them too. Unless I just point my mum towards them.. :p

Well, I'm not 17 anymore, alas, but all the teen girls I know would really like a shawl like that! (Word on the street is that shawls are very popular right now, anyway.)
And that wool (yarn) is fantastic! Gorgeous colours.

Thanks! It was a bargain, and I really like the yarn, but it's not something I would wear myself. So, present time. :D
