Heh. I don't know how many of you NaNoers have listened to the WriMoRadio podcast, but you should. Chris Beaty, Nao founder, talks about the shiny new stuff on the site that "will almost certainly crash the server several times over the next two months." Ahahaha! Clearly the man is psychic. :D

Listening to that podcast has also made me doubt what I want to do for NaNo this year, but that's an issue for my writing journal.

Like the big geek that I am, I'm already trying to decide what to dress up as for Halloween. Pretty much no one I'm working with now has seen my costume from last year (my black goth dress, white make-up, and my vampire teeth), so I could just wear that again. Or I could wear the dress again (I like that dress, can you tell?) except with a witch hat or something. Or I could go for something else, like maybe Tank Girl (except that's not really scary, and also a rather drafty costume for late October in Scotland) or Random Hogwarts Students (except ditto on the not scary--I suppose I could go as Mary Sue, from House Sparklypoo, but I doubt anyone else would think I was scary). Opinions? Suggestions? Anything?

(And yes, I fully plan to put up a poll about this nearer the date. LiveJournal: Enabling codependent tendencies since 1999!)

In other, crafty news, this circular knitting thing is annoying me. And I'm only on row one. Sigh. I'm having trouble finding yarn for [livejournal.com profile] oulangi's Ravenclaw scarf, so I may just jump ahead to [livejournal.com profile] ruby_fruit's Gryffindor scarf, for which I do know a shop that has the perfect yarn, and order the Ravenclaw colours somehwhere online or something.

... I wanna sign up for nano, but the website's missing. ::looks sideways at internet::

Where'd you find the podcast, if I may ask.

Are you on earthlink by any chance? That's apparently giving them problems, it's up for everyone else. The podcast feed is here. :)

.... I might be. I'm at work. I'll check with our IT guy.

All I get is a "Go Daddy" parked page. Arg!!

FYI, frmo the forums:

Pretty much anyone who uses Earthlink can't access NaNoWriMo.

This is because Earthlink's DNS servers are not giving the correct IP address for NaNoWriMo.

I've contacted all the emails I could find for reporting this kind of thing, but I haven't gotten any replies.

If you have any friends who are using Earthlink and are having trouble, please feel free to give them the following advice:

1. Call Earthlink Customer Service and complain bitterly.

2. Have them, or a tech savvy friend of theirs, set up alternate DNS servers so that they can access the NaNoWriMo site.

It's possible that changing the DNS servers will not fix the problem.
This can be the case if the computer is behind a router (in which case one could try setting up the DNS servers there) or with certain firewall configurations.
That's why step 1. is so important!!! Please focus all your frustration on Earthlink Customer Service until someone fixes this problem!!!

Well, rats. I got on for about 20 minutes last night... but then it blew up again.

Sucks to be me.

Turns out Earthlink has our DNS line, so yeah, that's the problem. Seems that Nano's webserver has some odd nameserver things going on...
