Today on Blokes In The Next Aisle Theatre: The Sound of Music! As in, one of them just spontaneously started singing Climb Every Mountain. *eyes them funnily* Also, "... Greg has been exposed to him ... Gay capital of the ..." What on earth are that lot on about? o_O

Okay, knitters on my friendslist, I need help. For the Ravenlaw hat, would it be best I use circular needles (in which case, how the hell do I do the stripes?) or do I just knit normally and sew it (and end up with a seam). I was looking at either this hat (simple, but looks it) or this one (needs circular needles, and I'm not sure how well that's gonna work with the thick yarn I have, but I like the model). Any advice? Please?

Scarf progress: Nine lines into the second-to-last panel. Unless I decide to add some more panels, that means I'll probably be finished tonight or tomorrow, so I should really decide on the hat thing and get any needles I may need this afternoon.

You can do stripes on circs same as straights, just join on the new color and break the old. (I love knitting on circs, especially hats. Yay hats.)

I like the striped one.

How do you break the old? I've been doing it on the scarves by knitting one colour up along the side while using the other, because I couldn't see how I'd be able to hide all these ends of thread while also avoiding having the stitches unthread, if that makes semse.

Oh, it'd be a striped one either way, but I rather like the long one, too, yeah. :)

You just cut it and then weave in the ends. It means weaving in a lot of ends, but on hats, I just do it on the inside and no one ever notices.

I didn't believe that it wouldn't unravel if I didn't knot it, but it doesn't. I usually leave a longish tail when I change colors.

Hey! I bet you could just knit both colors in the the first stitch of the round to carry it up one round! It'll put an interesting little stripe in, but that might work.

Yeah, with a hat, it'd be easier to put it on the inside, I bet, or just carry it over like I do with the scarves, and have the "seam" be in the back. Or something. I'll go for the circular needles and the long hat, I think. Thanks for the advice!
