Since Netscape isn't working anymore, I figured I'd give this FireFox thing a try, and I think I like it. It's close enough to Netscape that I don't have to get used to entirely new menus, etc., and it's got a ton of extensions and fun geeky things. I think I'll be switching over at home, too.

[ETA]Does anyone know how to make LJ Hook actually select a random icon like it says it can?[/ETA]

[ETA2]Also, the GreaseMonkey thread unfolder script doesn't actually unfold, boo. It tries to, but I think the javascript does weird things because it won't load the unfolded page at all, just the background. o_O[/ETA2]

It iiiis! It took a little while to get used to since I've basically just used IE from the start, but I'm not trading it for anything now. =)

Ah, see, I used Netscape from the beginning, and it took me a long time to switch to version 7 from version 4, but this switchover is so easy! *plays around* Wheeee! :D

Yay! *goes to look* Are you familiar with LJ Hook? I can't seem to be able to make it actually pick a random icon when I comment (boo!), and I wish I could fix the "insert HTML" stuff to become proper XHTML ...

LJ Hook did the random icon thingy for me right from the start. I didn't want it so I had to disable it in the settings. You have checked that yours is checked to do so, right? Closed Firefox and restarted it? ... Erm, that's all I can think of. :\ Oh, or maybe uninstall and reinstall it?

Definitely ticky-boxed, yeah, and I've tried unticking, reticking, ... Hrm. Will try and uninstall and see what that does.

Arg. Didn't see that before I posted. I'm sorry it's not working for you. It worked (too well) for me...

Thanks, I'll try and find a solution anyway. :/ Question: Did it select a random icon from the dropdown list on the "post comment" page, or after you posted?

From: [identity profile] mousewrites.livejournal.com

It seemed to do both. It'd pick a random icon, and I'd go "ARGGG!" (because I didn't know what was doing it) and I'd change it back... and it'd STILL post with some random icon. Very frustrating.

I can imagine. *pets you* It's not doing either for me, though. :(

Hey there.

LJ Hook: Go to "extentions" and then click on LJ hook. THen hit "Options"

On the General Settings tab, hit "use random icon"

It used to be clicked by default, causing me to FLIP OUT about two months ago when I started using it, as I only use certain icons for certain things, and it was putting in random ones...

Also, there's a few more firefox extentions I can't live without: See this post (this post). Some of them are updated, (IE, the spelling works on Deepest Sender) so you might want to search on the names. I really, really can't live without "rite of tongue".

*tugs your sleeve* The thread unfolder thingie doesn't work wah! :(

I think the unfold script was written for an old version of Greasemonkey which apparently had huuuge security holes in it. I remember it not working after I installed the new version of Greasemonkey. There's another unfold script in the big script archive, but I don't know if it works or not.

Apparently, there's no new version yet, woe. I'll have to wait, I suppose.

hmmm.. This script will not go on customized S2 comment pages.
