It occured to me last night that if RAB is indeed Regulus Black, as we all seem to think it is, then Draco is going to die in Book Seven. If it is Regulus, he's being set up, I think, to be a parallel for Draco, who is going to do something stupid and Gryffindorish and die in the process of it. Quite possibly, he'll have to kill his father while Harry battles Voldemort, or at least hold Lucius off long enough for Harry to succee in offing Voldie. Yes, this is a very fanon theory, but then, it's been a rather fanon book.

And in non-spoilery news, I'm memorifying everyone's post-reading posts and replying when I have a bit more time on Monday. :)

[...] but then, it's been a rather fanon book.

Word! Actually, that's a great way to sum it up.

If Draco dies in book seven, does that mean that Snape won't die? *ponders* Because I'm quite sure I would be horribly upset, if JKR went and killed off both of my favorite characters.

Snape ... either he's really Evil, and Harry kills him himself, or he's not, and Harry forgives him. (Or: He's really evil and Harry decides he doesn't want to split his soul more than he has to by killing Snape, and just immobilises him and takes him to Azkaban.)

*clings to Draco* WAH NO DYING!

Seriously? Even if I didn't like Snape, I'd be one-hundred percent convinced that he's not Evil (not even 'evil' without the capital E). The more I think about it, the more obvious I think JKR has been about it. Which makes me think that if Draco doesn't slither off the path of redemption he's on, JKR won't kill both him and Snape. At least, I hope so.

see, on the one hand, I don't think he's totally Evil, either. On the other hand ...

Snape's been set up from Book One as the "grey" character, the semi-redeemed Death Eater that those of us who didn't believe in Draco's irredeemable Evilness could point to as an example, the biggest argument in the case for JKR's ability to write characters that aren't black and white. Draco, meanwhile, has always been seen in the books as a nasty bully at best. It would be so ... something if Snape turned out to have been truly evil after all, and Draco is the one that gets "redeemed" in the end.

REGULUS! Of course. I was thinking "R Amelia Bones." But Regulus makes one hell of a lot more sense...

Well, Regulus is the obvious opption, but that could be a red herring ...

I sort of had that thought as well (touched upon in a reply I made to another comment [here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/randominity/122757.html?thread=633221#t633221)]. I deliberately didn't follow it through to its conclusion, though *clings to Draco* :(

*nodnod* OTOH, of course, it's possible that Draco will turn into a better-suited-to-teach version of the Snape we thought we knew before this book. He'll turn away from the Dark, if not entirely towards the light, help out with defeating Voldemort (because neutrality is not an option for Draco in this war, if indeed it is an option for anyone), and end up teaching Potions and bickering with Harry the DADA teacher in the teacher's lounge or something.

I just don't get why everybody thinks it's Regulus Black. I mean, sure, the initials fit (at least partly), but that's it. And if Dumbledore nearly died getting to that locket, and only got away with Harry's help, wouldn't it have taken on damned powerful, or at least skilled wizard to get the real locket out the first time? Regulus just seems a bit young...

Mostly because he was mentioned at least twice in the course of the book, for no apparent reason. We're getting wise to JKR's sneaky ways. :D

Good point about Regulus being not powerful enough, though I have to wonder if Dumbledore wasn't already weakened a lot before entering the cavern, with his hand and all that.

*rofl* I must be losing my touch, because I didn't notice. ;-) Phineas keeps butting in all the time as well... I wonder if that's going to be significant.

I'm sure he was weakened, but if you compare young Regulus Black to what is supposed to be the most powerful wizard in the world (even injured), I don't really think Regulus can compare...

Also, I would find it a bit much if both Sirius and Regulus, sons of a family priding itself on their pure-blood lineage, would turn against Voldemort. It's possible, but I'm not convinced.
