So I pre-ordered HBP on AmazonUK, and according to the website, the estimated delivery date is 15/16 July 2005. I realise of course that getting the book on the 15th is a crack dream, but I seem to recall Amazon being really good about delivering on the day itself. Am I remembering this right? Also, is next-day delivery done by courier or by post? I'm asking because the 16th is a Friday and I'm having it sent to my work address, which of course means that if it's not delivered on the 16th, I'm not getting it until the following Monday.

I have ordered mine too, just as I ordered order of the phoenix.
It was quite on time but law and behold the postman (yes, it was brought by the postman) just left it on the little balcony of my toilet window. Outside of the rain but available for anyone who wished to grab it.
(Luckely for me, no such person lives on my dead end street with 8 houses in it)
Either way I think you're going to get yours before I get mine.

The estimated delivery date is when they expect it to be in your hands, not when they expect it to leave the distribution centre.

E will be tortured: my mother's pre-ordered it from Amazon, but it'll be sent to her address in Gourock...

Yeah, but the official release date is the 16th, so I doubt I'll be getting it on the 15th. :D

Don't know when the book is supposed to get from Gourock to here, but I'm ordering two copies (one for me, one for my youngest brother), so E's welcome to borrow my second copy until you guys get yours.

*grins*

Amusingly, the book will probably ship from Amazon's warehouse in Gourock anyway. ;o)

E went 'gleeeee!' when I relayed that to her. :o)

Do you know if it's delivered by post or by courier? I'm assuming the latter, but one never knows.

Heee! I'll probably finish reading my copy by the end of my work day, if it's delivered early and not too many people call, so I'll be annoyingly squee-ish and bursting to spoil someone, but I promise I'll restrain myself. :D

Amazon use both, pretty much randomly. You can tell once it's been dispatched - it'll say on the status page.

*grins* I don't really care about spoilers - I'm not planning to read it. ;o)

I pre-ordered mine last week. *bounce* The Swedish net bookstore said it would be sent out on the 15th so it would arrive at the release date (16th).

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Yay for pre-ordering! Part of me wants to go to the midnight release thingie, especially since apparently there's one here that JKR actually reads at herself, but I know I'd go insane with the crowds and the kids and argh.

I love the internet!! :D Um.. You don't do well with crowds? :\ I'd be tempted to go if I lived over there, especially if JKR was reading, but the thought of all those kids.. Ergh.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Yeah, I used to get panic attacks in large crowds. I'm better now, but I still don't like them, especially when they're largely going to be made up of kids. Ugh.

I do not know about their delivery habits. But I, in turn, was confused that they seem to offer an not-so-adult version and an adult version of the book. What is that supposed to mean? Do I get to choose between Capslock-Harry or smut now?

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Ahahahah! Sadly, no, the difference is the cover, basically. The adult covers are more "grown-up" looking, for people who want to read the books on public transport but feel ashamed about reading "kiddie books" in public. (Me, I prefer the kid versions of the cover, much prettier.)

From: [identity profile] ashenmote.livejournal.com

Heh. Well, that seems kinda pointless because as long as they write Harry Potter on the cover in those big letters everyone still knows that you are reading a kiddie porn book. Gimme a neutral brown wrapping paper cover! THEN we are talking.

Post, unless you order special delivery, I think. Costs more but is faster. But last time I knew a stack of people who got them from Amazon on publication day, using standard delivery terms.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Well, I selected the quickest delivery possible, which should be next-day and which Amazon claims could get me the book the day before it actually comes out. Heh. So I should be getting it on publication day, I think.

That sort of thing isn't unheard of. A lot of people got their copies of Mac OS X 10.4 a day or two before the official release date because of how the shipping worked out.

The Amazon warehouse in Gourock probably already has stockpiles of the books ready to go out. If you get lucky, it could easily arrive on the 15th. :o)

Ha! I put my name in a box at Barnes & Noble, and it will be available for me to pick up at the midnight party or the next day. Woot! Midnight party!

From: [identity profile] wimmeke.livejournal.com

No kidding, If I had known about it in due time, I could have accompanied one of my female coworkers who is traveling to London for those forementioned party's, and to pick up her copy of the book ofcourse.

I'm a bit worried about it, she said she'd show up dressed as dobby. I asked if she would be wearing a little bit more than just a pillow cover and all she did was throwing me an odd look in return.

So please take pictures of all 24 years old looking blonde dobby's while you're there, please ?

This is actually my local B&N (I'm in California). Last time I went to a par-tay, which included a trip to the B&N par-tay, in the Bay Area, and when I got back, I discovered that my local B&N (in a much smaller place) actually had much cooler decorations.
