So, we're ... doing the RPS debate? Again? With the same arguments as always, except more vicious? *sigh* This icon has never beem quite as fitting as it is now.

I kinda want to get in on this, but at this point anything I can say will have been said already, and even though I said recently that I wanted to get back into debates like the RPS debate, the actual RPS wars have become ... well, frankly, too fucking vicious for me to even touch.

(Also, the way people still insist on equating RPS with stalking and rape, not to mention all the OMG YOU'LL GET SUED ullshite, after all this time still manages to get my blood pressure up into the red. Hate. Stupid. People.)

In other news, because I'm a lemming, you can find the desktop meme here:

This is my work desktop, but my home one looks much the same, with only a couple of different programmes. I really only have some shortcuts to frequently used programmes on my desktop, since files and such get saved to My Documents, so.

No problem. Have yet to face any heavy RPS discussions, so. I appear to avoid them quite handily -- if unconsciously -- though. :D

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

I can usually avoid it, too, but (possibly because of my history with the whole thing) I occasionally still get a whiff about it whenever it flares up again. It is, seriously, almost word for word the same damned argument I took part in over four years ago. Oi. *eyeroll*

I talked to [livejournal.com profile] mumblemutter about that RPS debate before it hit fandom wank and we were actually kind of amused that it hadn't hit f_w yet. Probably because it's the same bullshit all over again.

One of the Anti-RPSers actually said that the RPSers wouldn't come up with new arguements. Which I answered with that the RPSers think the same about them. She hasn't answered to that. :D

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Oi. And why should we be the ones to come up with new arguments, anyway? They're the ones who want us to stop, and if they can't come up with new reasons why we should, they're going to keep getting the same tired old responses to their same tired old arguments.

Honestly. People.

Honestly. People.

Word.

I just don't care about the discussion anymore. Reruns are way too boring.

I still don't get the whole RPS thing o_O;; *got into slash (almost capitalised that *amused*) through RPS* It was only after I started getting into yaoi that I was shown links to people bitching about it. I dunno, I don't see why people get so angry about it, especially if it has a disclaimer and all...

I can see how an artist reading a fic about them being raped or something would be disturbing, but I don't think those are the most prevalent fics out there...are they? o_o

People need better things to be irate about >:\

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

I think people get up in arms about it because up until about 2000, it really was the One True Taboo in slash. It just wasn't done, or at least it wasn't talked about in public. And then there was RS-X and stuff and it came out in the open and suddenly people actually had to deal with it.

It's worth noting, though, that non of the people I've talked to about slash who weren't into fandom themselves have made this FPS/RPS distinction. It is, as far as I can see, very much a fan-created distinction.

From: [identity profile] yaoipimp.livejournal.com

Hmm...that was about the time I got into it I think, maybe a year or so earlier. Might be why I missed it, then again, it was confined to certain places.

*nods* I agree on that, to most people slash is slash is slash. Then again, fandom people are often craaazy people...

Well, at the end of the day, there's that handy little back button if they really don't wanna deal with it. People forget this though o_o

Yeah, I read some of the stuff.
It was shrug-tastic.

To use a phrase from a brilliant book I'm reading atm, it's part of The Great Whatever.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

That is a most excellent phrase and I will now proceed to steal it. Muah!

I thought you had this FAQ page about RPS with all the facts on it. I used to link to it, then it got dead. Just put it up someplace again.

Also, still can't see pic of desktop.

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

Oops, image tag fixed now. And the FMO will possibly be back up at some point, but it never seemed to help with the repetetiveness even when it was up. Because the anti crowd can't seem to understand thatwe've heard all this before, dammit. *sigh, eyeroll*

From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com

People are dumb. But that way you don't have to repeatedly type everything you have to say, just link. "Here. Read. Don't talk to me about this ever again."

From: [identity profile] bubosquared.livejournal.com

See, that was the theory. In practise, they just keep coming up with new and creatively insulting ways to phrase the same things.

("Latest" thing: RPS is not only stalking, but also rape. Sigh.)
