Before I get down to the business of the day, I have a couple of things to say about the recent FBI-meets-fandom thing, now that I've managed to pull my brain back from "What the fuck? What the fucking fuckity fuck?"
First of all, a number of people have pointed out that the Secret Service pretty much have to investigate these things, on the off-chance that they're real. I do think they could've dropped by before eight in the evening, like decent people, but I suppose they had their reasons. I do think it's shitty that she could not be put on a no-fly list because of something that checked out to be a goddamn joke, but I don't know enough about US laws or politics to really be able to argue either way on that.
However.
What really scares me, and infuriates me, is that someone reported her. LIkely, someone in fandom. I thought I'd seen the worst of this kind of shite when someone outed an HP slasher to their boss (losing them their job), but I was unfortunately wrong. WTF, people. It's a HOBBY! Why would it even occur to you to sic the Secret Service on people for that? WTF? WTFuckingFuckityF?
*deep breath* Okay, I'm better now. My faith in humanity has been momentarily restored by the guy who asked us to send his refund to a good cause, rather than to himself. I want to send that guy chocolates.
Okay, my coworker needs to come back from break so I can go on mine. LIke, NOW, because he's already two minutes late (and left three minutes early).
Still pondering my costume for tomorrow. I need to drop by a costume shop this afternoon and see if they have either vampire teeth or something with which I can fasten mine, or maybe a witch hat (I could get some flashy scarves and fake glasses and go as Trelawney, hee!) or something.
Okay, my webmail can start workingn properly any time now ...

Do you think I can link to it on my lj, or is that just making things worse? [Didn't read everything yet, in case she mentions something about that]
