Hm, I wonder if I can get that over here. I should get on some sort of pill anyway to get my periods regularily, I think. And to stop the occasionally really heavy one like this, ow.
Mine can be really bad too. Silly me is afraid of needles tho, so I haven't had the shot. And seeing as I'm single I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let me have it anyway.
Wait, they won't give you the shot unless it's actually for birth control? Oi. My doctor back in Belgium didn't care, and I'm pretty sure people here won't. But then, I have seriously irregular periods, and they're getting steadily heavier by the year. Sigh.
I don't know, I've never asked for it, and no doctor of mine has ever suggested it as a form of birth control for me. However I have friends who have been on it.
But the reasons you have for taking the shot are perfectly reasonable and I'm pretty sure that a doctor would agree with me.
My main iffiness with the pill and related things is that my "writing cycle" is influenced by hormones, and I don't want to end up blocked agan because I go on the pill or something. And seriously, most doctors won't care about your reasons for BC, single or not. Or so I'd hope.
I took the pill to control my heavy periods for a few years as well, no problem. I still had pain, but less than before and my period was not as heavy. Now I'm back on it, I have to say I don't notice a big difference in the pain anymore, only the heaviness of the period. The thing it does do though, it gives you a considerably lower sex drive. Or at least it did with me. :-) -well, let's just say I got comments that I was incredibly horny after I'd quit the pill so...- I still got hormonal around the time of my ovulation (or when I would've normally ovulated), so that didn't change much. (and bitchy AND hormonal around the time of my period ;-) ) Oh, and those shots are not 100%. I think they're for three years. And some girls indeed have no period for three years, while others still do, without much regularity...
The thing is, I (like all women in my mum's family) have a very, very irregular cycle. And while i've learned to live with that these past ten years, they're steadily getting heavier and longer--though still not auite as bad as that time I had them for four weeks--and I'm getting worried about the long-term effects. Irregular cycles heighten your risk for osteoperosis, which already runs in the family quite strongly, and frankly I'd like to know what it's like to know when your periods will start and have them only last for three days, for once in my life.
Much as I'd like to get rid of my periods altogether, if it means heightening my risk of getting oseoperosis later on in life, I''ll settle for just lighter and regular periods.
I still had my periods for about 5 days... but I was on a very light pill as well. The reason I quit was because I was starting to lose blood when I ovulated as well. So what's the bloody point. A mini-period and a period all in one month, no thank you. But before that, it worked fine for about three years. And I could've switched to a heavier pill. But I thought I'd see if my periods were still as bad as I remembered them... and they were pretty much the same as with the pill (sometimes horrid, sometimes ok). So, if I were you, I'd go see a doctor, tell them you want birth control and if they get too nosey, tell em you're a dyke and they can stick it up their arse. Or you could put it rather more eloquently too of course.
Does it do this to everyone, though? I've never heard anyone else complain about it.
I have heard that people get attracted to a different type of male, though. Apparently, a lot of the attraction bewteen man and woman (and it seems to me this would be the same between woman and woman... I don't see why it would be different) depends on the smell people, erm, produce, which depends on your hormones. And I guess the type of smell you like also depends on those hormones, which change when you take the pill. So basically, when women quit the pill because they've passed their menopauze, they're suddenly attracted to this completely different kind of guy or girl... Seems rather weird to me.
My friend from highschool had a lower sex drive (in so far she had one) and had a ravenous appetite. She got delirious if she saw candy.
Very weird. I've heard about the pheromone thingie, but I didn't know taking the pill/or menopauzing could alter that. Generally, I don't like to tamper with my hormones and the pill does that. I hope I menopauze very late because I've heard the sex drive really lowers. And I like my sex drive just fine. *sly grin*
